It seems like if one of the exchanges like btc-e or cryptsy were to run a multi-pool, they would make money coming and going.  Why don't the exchanges at least run mining pools for the different coins they support?

exchanges/pools make me worried, conflict of intersest.  it would be easy to pump the pool you mine with personal access to and exchange.
