Hi I had a tennis match where the player retired. I wagered during the match and it was settled a loss.?
Hi Workout1198,
Thanks for betting at DirectBet.
Your bet has been settled correctly but unfortunately it did not win.
Following is the relevant information from our betting rules :
https://www.directbet.eu/Rules.cshtmlIf a player or pairing retires or is disqualified in any match, the player or pairing progressing to the next round (or winning the tournament in the case of a final) will be deemed the winner. However if less than one set has been completed at the time of the retirement or disqualification then all bets relating to that individual match will be void.
Since more than one set was completed, all Match Odds bets stand.
The reason for this rule is because many players retire when they have virtually no chance of winning to avoid risking greater injury, and it would not be fair to void bets in such cases for those who picked the winning player.
For example, the player you bet on, Aljaz Bedene, was down 5 - 7, 0 - 4 when he retired. He had a very small chance of winning and it wouldn't be fair to void bets that were placed on Struff.
I understand that this rule was against your favor this time, but the most important thing is that we follow our rules consistently regardless of bets result and it may just go in your favor the next time around.
If you placed many Tennis bets on our website in the past I'm sure you will find bets that you won because the losing player retired. It happens all the time and we void bets only if less than 1 set was completed.
I hope this clarifies, please feel free to contact us for any further information.
