This is my first time trying to transfer BTC purchased on MtGox to my PC wallet. How long does this usually take?

A couple hours ago I initiated the transfer at Mt. Gox using my bitcoin address.

So far my bitcoin client shows a balance of 0.00. It shows '8 connections / 128,865 blocks / 0 transactions' and I see the number of blocks increasing, so I believe it's connecting to the internet just fine. I triple checked to make sure I copy/pasted the correct address.

Should it be taking this long?

Thanks.

Here's the transaction:

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I think I might be able to answer my own question... I think I have to wait for my bitcoin client to download the complete block chain @ 142,550 blocks (as per http://blockexplorer.com/q/getblockcount )

Creepers I had no idea the bitcoin client would be so taxing on my OS X machine.

* 417MB on disk so far
* computer is generally sluggish while client is running
* confirmed client is not in 'mining' mode, it's just listening

I wonder how my android bitcoin wallet app is able to accept bitcoins w/out downloading 500 MB of stuff?

Android Wallet is based on BitcoinJ which is a librarry that uses "headers only" instead of the full blockchain.
