Like Obama says, "We all have to make sacrifices".  Cheesy

Quote from: Article
CHRISTMAS BREAK IN HAWAII: DECEMBER 2010
According to the Hawaii Reporter, the bill for the $1.5m trip included:
$63,000 on an early flight bringing Mrs Obama and the children to Hawaii ahead of the President.
$1,000,000 on Mr Obama’s return trip from Washington on Air Force One.
$38,000 for the ‘Winter White House’ beach property rental.
$16,000 to rent nearby homes for Secret Service and Navy Seals.
$134,000 for 24 White House staff to stay at the Moana Hotel.
$251,000 in police overtime.
$10,000 for an ambulance to be on hand at all times

Quote from: K. Cannon, VA, USA, 25/8/2011 15:36
It's not his fault? Whose fault is it? Let me guess - it is Bush's fault! You don't need to get it from the Enquirer, it is all over the Internet and the news outlets that dare to report on the man they helped get elected. In addition to lavish vacations the Obamas enjoy having concerts with big stars at the White House. They also do Wed night parties at the White House featuring Kobe beef and other expensive delights. Then, when he talks to the public, Obama says the rich must pay their fair share, that they are greedy. He actually denegrates the very people that he parties with and that voted for him. At least most of these rich people are flying around in their OWN jets and paying for their OWN vacations. Bush WAS hammered by the press when he took vacation even though most of his vacations were to his house in Texas where he went to chop wood. Obama is no man of the people and he is the worst president in my lifetime. His policies are destroying the US, but that's his goal...

just to note the daily mail is a british tabloid and they essentially print lies and slander in order to sell papers. They're one of the papers likely mixed up in the phone hacking scandal too. Honestly I wouldn't believe anything thats written in them, especially if you don't want cancer because according to the daily mail everything will cause cancer, or cure it.

And maddie is still alive with diana both hiding in oceania under fake names!!!

As someone who supports limited government, I don't have a problem with this. My reasoning is that a president is at considerable more risk of assassination then an ordinary person. A salary of 400k may look like a lot, but it isn't enough to hire military jets and so on privately.

LOL total bullshit from the wackheads at the dailymail.. at least they put accused in the title.

I guess the great thing that can be said, is with all the petty crap the right wing around the planet finds to throw at Obama must mean, he hasnt been the worst president in human history.

Otherwise they would find something worthwhile to bitch about, like where the hell is that republican jobs plan they promised us.

People are like "abloo bloo bloo obama is bad" and then idolise reagan when reagan popularised the idea it was fine to spend into debt, cut taxes so much the government went broke and wasted billions and billions of dollars on proxy wars and personal projects which amounted to nothing, and this was when dollars were actually worth something.

The dailymail does have a reputation of publishing bullshit but this is certainly withing the realm of possibility. How much do you think a holiday at Martha's Vineyard costs? Or this Hawaiian Beach side mansion that they stayed at for 2 weeks? I guess some people are just more than happy to work months on end to fund such an opulent lifestyle for their "representatives." To each his own.

It's all bullshit though.

Obama doesn't need to give up his lifestyle all because republicans don't want to raise taxes on people of his income level.

In other words Obama WANTS HIS TAXES RAISED so he can further help the country!

All the people that want to pay more taxes are free to do so. But don't "volunteer" everyone else just because you feel self-righteous.

Obama is privately wealthy, worth several million.  If he were not your leader, he could live on Martha's Vineyard and not regard the cost of living as an issue.  But he is your leader, he needs protection and staff so what's the problem?

Why should he even go on holiday while the economy is tanking? How many Americans can afford to take time off thanks to his policies (can I say that yet or is it all still Bush's fault?) Why should the tax payer pay his flight bill when he is traveling on personal business? Let alone fly 4 hours apart from the rest of his family?

So your issue is not the cost.  If Obama stayed in DC and told the kids to have a camping holiday on the White House lawn, the staff and the security costs would still be there.

You issue is you just don't want the president to take a holiday if the economy is weak.

Fair enough.

Out of curiosity, is it just him you want to see making even more policies or would you like Congress and the Senate to remain in setting passing laws and "doing stuff" until the economy recovers?  The reason I ask is that I think there is a fair case to be made for enforcing even longer holidays.  The less they do, the better off the economy :p

I agree. A permanent, unpaid vacation would be ideal. But, I am arguing under the assumption that there is any legitimacy to him, his office, congress and government as a whole. Otherwise if I argue from the point of view of Anarchy, this thread would devolve into a mudslinging match.
