I have recently built a 8 GPU mining rig and have been mining a few alt coins for a couple of weeks no problems, then i start to mine ethereum and one of my cards fans start spinning at 100% (first time I've heard this). This was with Claymore miner, so I tried etherminer and same thing. Since then I've noticed when i boot up the rig before windows starts, all fans would spin except the one GPU. When mining with either Claymore or etherminer the one GPU will mine for a bit then stop, then mine again, then stop again while the fan is fluctuating between off to 100%. If i try to control the fan speeds via miner or msi afterburner, the one GPU ignores any settings. All GPU's are stock, i haven't messed with any clocking, I just recently installed msi afterburner just to see if i could control the fan speeds. I have tried swapping risers and same GPU acts up. I've also tried installing Windows 7 on a different ssd but I've had hell doing so. I've tried different drivers for GPU's. I also noticed in AMD Radeon Settings, one GPU show to have a different bios build (but msi afterburner showed all 8 to be the same). Any suggestions?

So, the troubled card always the same? Have you tried this "X" card do mining alone? How's your rig powering scheme with that 2 PSU? That was also can be troubling your rig.

I have unhooked the 7 that work and hooked the problem one up to the 1st pci and was not receiving any picture and fans were not spinning on boot up. I hooked all of them back up placing in different slots except the main one i was using for the monitor. Still same problem, so I'm just mining with 7 atm. my 2 750w psu are connected with this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA29U5ZS0004 / the cpu power i have only coming from one of the psu's. each psu is powering 4 gpus. I'm going to hook the bad gpu into a friends miner this weekend and see what it does.

Ok nvm, my friend's rig is all taken apart atm. Any last suggestions before i try to RMA it?
