The following is a quote from an opinion article written by Mr. Clarence Page, who writes for the Tribune Media Services, of Chicago I believe. The article appeared in my local rag last evening.
Bitcoin. A unit of alleged digital “money” that offers everything that paper currency offers, except stability, reliability or transparency. Now you see it … no, you don’t.
It’s not clear who’s behind bitcoin, but its biggest users appear to be international gangsters and the Wall Street geniuses who gave us “derivatives’ and the 2008 crash. Hey, what possibly could go wrong?
As for me, it is clear that I’m not one of ‘its biggest users’ because the last gang I was involved with was in the 1960’s (called the US Navy) and the last time someone called me a ‘genius’ actually meant that he thought I was a moron.
You may dismiss the thoughts behind the article that Mr. Page wrote as ignorance. That’s just fine, but what will we, the bitcoin user community, do to combat it? Postings here, and on reddit, are preaching to the choir. Do we have access to a print media that will tell our story?
Anyone in the Chicago area want to fund a wallet and show Mr. Page how non-gangsters and non-Wall Streeters use our coin?
Ignorance is forgivable. Apathy is not.
