I'm good with Linux and a few languages. I get the way BTC works, but I'd like to re-create it, in full. I'm not trying to hack the BTC network (I don't believe that's possible). I am actually just interested in creating a new network that will create a finite supply of something that acts like a currency -- not a whole lot different from what NameCoin is doing.

Where do I even begin to start doing that? Are there libraries containing the code?

Thanks in advance.

Nik

everything is available to start new *coins via git etc
bit pointless imo, and lots of ppl got caught already with "coin of the day" when it was replaced with next "coin if the day"

Maybe he's not trying to fork to a new coin like i0 or solid or whatever that shitty first one was, but rather make something unique like namecoin did.

Regardless of intention. The source in on github I believe. Should be a sticky somewhere on the dev page.

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin

Though http://code.google.com/p/bitcoinj/ may be of more use for learning purposes.
