Hi, have you ever thought this?

You know that, to import a wallet you need the private key or your seed. Taking as example the private key (the 52 letters key). It could exist the possibility someone create a software whose function was to try thousands of times to find the private key till it is be done. This would be like the process to find the new block in mining, anyway you can try the times you want in order to find it.

I think this could be a weakness, correct me if I am wrong. Smiley

Or comment if you have a kind of solution for this...

Regards!

No this is not possible.Or let'S say the chances for a collusion are ridiculously small. If it would be so easy, Bitcoin wouldn't have functioned from the beginning, trust me. I recommend you to take a deeper reading into how public-key cryptography or asymmetric cryptography works.
And never forget that Bitcoin is out there, in the wild open internet, with all it's dangers and threats since more than 9 years now without ever being offline!!
There are hundreds or even thousands of people worldwide, who are contributing to the core protocol and looking for ways to improve it if there is a possibility.

If someone really wanna steal bitcoins there are other easy ways around than making a program which could run on loop to find private keys. I would prefer Phishing page, or a web wallet or a scam exchange or simply Bitcoin Doubling script than scratching my mind over a program which is next to impossible to make.  Cheesy Cheesy

Let´s take this specific example...

Let´s say you want to steal the wallet of someone else and move it to your B.info wallet. The website in B.info ask you for the private key or QR code. You could develop a program which would try by thousands of tries to "guess" the private key. By somehow you connect that program to B.info website and this one would try to find that private key.

Please, answer by a quote after this comment. By this way others people can see all the conversation. Wink

There are nobody who can protect themselves from professional hackers if they decided to hunt you. Even big exchanges such as bitfinex encountered hacking a few years back and so how much to those single individuals. But as long as you have not a large amount of bitcoin then there is no worry  from professional hackers since they are only targeting those who have huge bitcoins. But still even though we are not the target of big hacking groups we can still be a victim to the simple hackers if you are not careful.

Its even impossible to restore lost private key, how much more taking lots of numbers and letters.Thats why private key is designed like that to secure your wallet from thief. If thats possible you need a long time before you got the right private key.

imagine a desert. i go in the middle of it in a random location, pick up one grain of sand color it green and leave it there. can you find it?
you can start from the start of the desert or in the middle or wherever else and look at thousands of grains of sand every milli second but you won't find it. that is similar to looking for one private key with a "software"!

There is a FOMO brewing...

Of course stealing is possible. It's just that there are different cases that it can happen. Private keys are made for security. Every code is very unique and chances of stealing are very small yet if you are the one who lost your private keys or even forgot it then I think losing it through neglect or losing it by sharing your private keys to someone is like actually the same. I think better chose losing it by the chance you cannot remember it than being stolen. If you coins are lost then it will contribute to bitcoins value but if it is stole.

If you are not careful then they can steal your btc. But making a program is almost impossible and it just takes so much time. Hackers are more likely to get lucky making phishing sites or keyloggers and get btc that way

But if you are carefull in keeping your private key it will not easy to  steal. Its better keep it into your mind and i think it is the most safety way of keeping your password.

Hi, have you ever thought this?

Lots of people have thought about it and even done the math:

Quote from: odolvlobo
The maximum theoretical probability can be computed. Suppose bitcoins are maximally distributed such that each address holding bitcoins contains only 1 satoshi. There would be 2.1 quadrillion addresses in use (or about 251).

The maximum odds of a collision occurring while distributing the 2.1 quadrillion satoshis is approximately (251)2 / (2 * 2160), or

1 in 259, or 1 in 576460752303423488

That is an incredibly small number.

Once the satoshis are distributed, the odds of generating a single address that is already in use is 251 / 2160, or
1 in 2109, or 1 in 649037107316853453566312041152512

These are the highest possible odds of a collision.

It's far easier to fall victim to malware/virus/hacking/trojan/phishing/etc than it is to brute force a key in that way.  Be mindful of security and you should be fine.

The private key must remain secret at all times because revealing it to third parties is equivalent to giving them control over the bitcoins secured by that key. The private key must also be backed up and protected from accidental loss, because if it’s lost it cannot be recovered and the funds secured by it are forever lost, too.”

Well, you are a good candidate for this video then, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZloHVKk7DHk  ...There has not been

anyone that I know that explained this better. He even explain how much Quindecillion is, because that is the numbers we are

using to explain the math behind Bitcoin. I think you will understand why this is impossible, when you understand the Math

behind this.  Wink

Yes its possible to steal someone bitcoin by just using bruteforce, because bruteforce have a billion words that can generate words and numbers but its takes time, if you have alot of bitcoin better to store it in cold and offline wallet for your bitcoin security.

Whatever you are it is possible but not now. The processing speed of the current computer has not allowed us to do that. A 9-character password consists of: Normal writing + Capitalization + Numbers and symbols will take 44,530 years.

Technically, cold storage wouldn't actually help you in the event of a genuine collision, so it's fortunate the chances of that are so infinitesimally small.  The reason for cold storage is to minimise the far more likely risks of malware/virus/trojan/keylogger/etc.  Still good advice, though.

Yes, indeed it is one of the weaknesses of crypto wallet. It is recommended to use a hardware wallet such as trezor instead of an online wallet.
