Could we buy up enough land to claim it as bitcoin land? Everyone using BTC...

Gold isn't the answer.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Depends what you mean. Sure, people could buy up land and call it Bitcoinland or whatever you wanted, but do you mean as its own sovereign nation with it's own currency etc?

Yes, probably.  It would still be a part of whatever country it lies in, subject to its laws.  But on a private property, people could do business in BTC, or chickens, or whatever.

Has there ever been a privately owned city?  I imagine there would still need to be a municipal government to answer to federal authorities, but the municipal government might have a fairly wide latitude regarding its own laws and policies.

That'd be quite a cool idea. Maybe in the future it'll be a reality.

WTB Iceland. Vast geothermal/cheap energy, beautiful environment, strong tech infrastructure already in place, very low population density... its "average citizen life span" is like 88+ years, some of the highest on the planet. Fuckin' Iceland, yo. "Damn, snow is cold. I'll just jump in this hotspring I found"... where else you going to get that?
