Can't post this in the altcoin subforum yet, so I might as well post it here. We're launching w/ Fedoracoin next week, check out our site at http://pay.withfedoraco.in/Right now we're looking for developers as well as website owners and Fedoracoin users to start a discussion about payment platforms and what every stakeholder expects from such a system. We will be open sourcing our entire software stack at launch because we feel that that can improve security and security is key for any platform that will handle coins. Some quotes from the site We believe that a huge share of feeling secure about making payments comes from knowing what's going on. That's why you keep full control over what software you use to handle a transaction.
You already have a wallet set up, why should we force you to keep two accounts with two different sets of transactions?
* Use your existing tools * No logging in * No account info required
It's completely overkill for every small website to run its own instance of the Fedoracoin daemon.
Let us worry about the gory details. You just create the transaction via our API and we'll give you a callback when payment has been confirmed. It's as easy as that.
You can even specify prices in other currencies than just Fedoracoin. We regularly update the exchange rates between TIPS/BTC and TIPS/LTC (from CoinedUp) and we'll convert your prices to TIPS so your users get to pay with Fedoracoin and you get the right amount of coins.
Once I gain enough activity to be able to post in the appropriate subforum I will post it there. For now, let's hear what everyone thinks!

For now, yes. I didn't know that site, but they don't support TIPS. Other than that, we plan on making the payment process a bit more developer and end-user friendly. Right now, we have the following APIs planned: - Simple REST API; you request the transaction and get an address which you can show to your users, we will ping your callback when it's done and you can poll for changes
- JS client flow; you load our JS library and start a transaction, a modal window shows up that handles the payment and will call a JS callback when done, then you use the REST API to confirm
- Simple client flow; you redirect users to our site, they complete te transaction there, we redirect them back, you confirm using the REST API
The first is obviously the most work to implement, but also the most versatile. The second gives a superior user experience with a known and trusted UI right from your website. It will use websocket to our API to listen for updates. The third option is the easiest to implement: just point your users to our URL and we'll handle everything. This is the method that for instance PayPal and iDeal use.

Would it be possible to integrate this in to a Facebook app? The major hurdle for cryptos is to actually be used as a currency rather than a speculative commodity. Introducing TIPS as a form of currency within the Facebook community could be effective.

No problem, we have lots of experience with Facebook apps. What did you have in mind?

I envision a TIPS wallet within Facebook. Could we also allow the app to mine? That would be awesome. Obviously, that would bring so many more people in to using TIPS.
Allowing everyday people to participate in the mining process is key to achieving actual utilization. If people could do this through Facebook, a mobile app or an easy to use client it would be huge! Ultimately, the focus needs to be on the user.
It may be too late to integrate these things into this coin.

JavaScript mining would be terribly ineffective, probably below 1kh/s A TIPS wallet within Facebook would be possible, we might pick this up as a next project.

That would be pretty cool to see in action.
1kh/s. That would be terribly inefficient. Allowing people to mine through a facebook or mobile is more about creating a way to get coins to them. Everyday people aren't going to buy this coin, (or any coin for that matter) at least at first. So, having them "mining" is not really about mining at all, it's about engaging them in the network and making them a user. They wouldn't be doing any substantive mining-- but they would be participating in the network and earning coins. Up to this point cryptos have been all about the miners and speculators-- I think the everyday person is overlooked in the current paradigm of cryptos. That will eventually change.

Wouldn't a faucet accomplish this more efficiently? I'd be hard to actually get shares in with that hashrate.

Quick update for those subscribed to this thread: we're almost done with the developer dashboard and we will be accepting developers soon. After that, we'll incrementally roll out features of the platform and their respective docs.
Btw, if you'd like to show your support of w/, you can do that by visiting the site. We check the number of hits daily and if we see a lot of people are interested, our morale goes up and we'll work harder!
