Personally? I think it's an incredibly risky gamble.

When investing, weigh the risk against the potential reward, and also account for the possibility that with high risk comes that chance that you may end up with nothing.

I'm a miner and trader, so investment isn't my thing, but VisaCoin doesn't fill me with confidence.

Is visacoin a scam or just a risky investment?

It's a gamble, one that's not worth to take. But that's for you to decide. chances of it being a failure are high

Honestly couldn't tell you. My gut instinct says scam, but I could be wrong. Even if it isn't, it's still incredibly risky. If you can afford to lose it, invest.

I can risk the 0.5BTC, But I would not throw my money in the next puddle.

Scams are not gambles, they are deliberate theft/fraud.

If you ask "should I throw away my money on a blatantly obvious scam by a blatant scammer that does not give a damn that everyone knows they are a scammer and it is a scam because they know morons/idiots throw money away insanely around here" maybe you will find it easier to decide.

You are underestimating this coin for sure. The one before - Mastercoin's logo was made from some cheap phone camera photo and was roughly curved. Now we can see some definitely nice work in Photoshop - a lot of stars, "trust" word and so on. Although I think it was stolen from somewhere cause big image has rough pixel shape from the sides it is very good made for 8 or even 10 years old child.

I personally don't think it's a scam.
It's quite an risky investment. The reward possibilities are enormous tho  Smiley

I heard of the coin for the first time today, I cant actually find any decent info on it.

the site itself is "Under construction"  (it takes me about 4 minutes to login and register a new domain on my host, then takes about only 30 seconds for me to change the default document to point to what ever page i want and then about 10 seconds to upload the page to the destination)

Websites that say Under Construction take less than 5 minutes to produce from scratch so don't use that as proof of the existence of substance!

it would appear the "developer" has already taken 94 BTC of peoples money (if the list he has published is to be believed... surely the reason for posting peoples names is to give the project credability? if thats the case why are the names Stared out to obscure the identities - sorry folks this is crypto land, data protection act doesnt really apply!

also the picture does look to be pretty good quality, but as i watched my almost inept colleague spend an hour reading how to apply various affects in fireworks (like an advanced MSPaint) I can tell you it wont take more than an hour to create that logo if you know what terms to search for on google.

so as i mentioned in the IPO post, it would be best to wait for actual proof of a coin before sending your BTC into a potential black hole.

At least thats my take at the moment.

As for investment advice i wouldnt want to suggest anything because i dont know the ins and outs of all the coins, but my recent gamble was Pennies - I bought 1.5BTC worth at 0.00000001 XPM   Personally i see more potential of Pennies doubling than i see in VisaCoin coming into existance.

Also as someone else pointed out, If the coin launched and gained ground Visa could sue the arse of the created - MasterCoin was not called MasterCardCoin so the comparison doesn't actually stand up in my book.

(alternatively you could just hold you btc and hope it skyrockets :-) it could be worth a small fortune this time next week/month/year/decade)

Before deciding to invest in VisaCoin, please spend a few minutes to understand what has been happening after substantial number of people have invested in this VisaCoin. I am one of those, and probably will be a victim.

Here is a real story with concrete evidence, as record of Blockchain cannot tell lies. You can check out evidence by clicking the links provided below.

The Visacoin developer has been changing the IPO rules, and keep receiving investment even the proposed number of investors have reached.

The developer has got the time to make a website, but can't even spend half a minute to correct my investment figure in the IPO summary table.
My investment is 2.5 BTC, but only 1 BTC is shown.  I have informed the VisaCoin developer about my investments several times in the past a few days.
In the Visacoin thread, other investors have suffered from similar problems.

Using the provided block explorer https://blockchain.info/address/1PmsmFaNQraZVbBv3Q13jmyucXVJfUo4Hb?offset=50&filter=0
Everybody can check using my BTC account number: 13gVWinUNnqAEDrnEDLwjeVPoLet4K8CBL.
Everybody can see that I have investigated two times (1.5 BTC, 1 BTC) with a total of 2.5 BTC.

Then Everybody can check my investment record (row 54, Ir**Ang) the IPO with the following link:
Google: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApjQ5TKiRAK0dGdFZW1TRENFbC1Hc3Y5OWxaemtGS1E&usp=sharing

The irresponsible attitude of VisaCoin team has made me as well as other investors worry whether VisaCoin is just a scam!
