Hi, is the item still for sale? Is it the entire newspaper or did you only frame the front page?

Thanks,
Niv

The item for sale is the entire newspaper, including three magazines which came with it.  The paper is in excellent condition.
However, unfortunately, I have decided to increase the offer price to 0.45 BTC.  I know this is a large increase from the 0.1 BTC mentioned above, however please let me try to explain.

When I posted on this forum about the paper, a lot of interest was generated and therefore I tried to investigate the issue and obtain more copies of the paper.  I discovered you could order old papers online, from various companies offering the newspaper from the day you or a friend was born.  I subsequently tried to order the paper from these companies.  Today I called all three of these companies which I found and discovered that all the copies of the Times from 3 January 2009 had been sold out in the last few days due to, what they described as the paper having something to do with Bitcoin and having extremely high demand.  Papers I had ordered in the previous days from the websites could not be delivered and I was offered a refund, this was considered very unusual for them.  The paper is now very rare and I am unable to obtain more copies.

In addition to this I think the paper has unique qualities as an asset since its value is linked to Bitcoin, it’s kind of a Bitcoin denominated asset.  Many think there is a small chance that the Bitcoin blockchain may succeed and become one of the most important databases in the world, if it does, then the paper could be extremely valuable in the future as a collectible.  Personally I am not sure if this blockchain will succeed, I think it’s the protocol and technology that has value and some other chain without this newspaper in the genesis block may eventually become more dominant.  However given the factors above I have decided to increase the offer price to 0.45 BTC.  I apologise for this.

Many thanks

I understand your reasoning behind this. I would like to have this framed cover on my wall, but not 0.45 BTC much "like" :-)
The photograph here or on the internet doesn't cut it though - Maybe there is a digital version, like a pdf ebook version or the like?

That's impressively bonkers.

I remember sniffing around the usual newspaper sites years ago and it was pretty much the only day not available. Even then I was surprised that something relatively obscure at the time was all gobbled up.

The Times should reprint on the sly.

Just wanted to necro this thread to announce that http://www.thetimes03jan2009.com/ is linking to it and claiming we all have copies of the paper for sale, with absurd, false asking prices attached to our usernames. OP may wish to remove

I believe that site has been up for a while.   I remember seeing it about a year ago and thinking the prices were absurd.     If they are using your usernames without permission, it may be best to post a thread stating this, to cover yourself in the scenario that this fraud ends up being a successful scam.

I also contacted a number of these newspaper hoarders back in 2014 and all of them said they wished they had more copies or asked for more because they had gotten many requests. I message Jonny and he told me he'd sell me one for 2 btc around the 1K/btc time, too rich for my blood sadly. But hey I also turned down 1btc cassascuis coins for $50 because I didn't know what btc was at that point. So fuck I suppose.

I can see another unearthed one attracting some ridiculous kite flying price wise. I can also see someone coughing up for it. They ain't making any more and BTC is getting more significant every day.

I'd pay 0.1 BTC for a copy.

Bitcoin Fact: the price of bitcoin will not be greater than $70k for more than 25 consecutive days at any point in the rest of recorded human history.

There are a bunch of people that would.  I know I was looking for one in 2015 or 2016 and nothing.  All the sites, known resellers all out.  And the people that own them here are not selling them.  With that said I'd be interested in one myself if someone has one...

I also wonder how hard it would be to fake one of these.

I would be very wary when it comes to getting one especially from an untrusted source.

If anything I would have it authenticated by the times company itself to confirm it is genuine.

I'm sure the Times have better things to do be doing with their time.

I guess it's conceivable there are fake ones. You'd have to have an original as there's no way all of the content is online.

If it really is possible these may become impossible to trust as there's no real way of telling what's original and what isn't.
