Jang Song Thaek, the uncle of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un who was executed last month for "hideous" crimes, reportedly died a hideous death, thrown into a cage with as many as 120 hungry dogs that ate him alive.

According to a new report from Wen Wei Po, a pro-Beijing newspaper "with close ties to China's ruling Communist Party," Jang and his five closest aides were stripped naked and put into a cage with hunting dogs that had been deprived of food for five days. Kim Jong Un, his brother Kim Jong Chol and 300 other officials reportedly watched the one-hour ordeal where Jang and his aides were "completely eaten up."

The report from Wen Wei Po was republished by NBC News but not confirmed, NBC noted.

Jang Song Thaek was executed by the orders of Kim Jong Un last month after being physically removed from his government post, charged with corruption. According to the official Korean Central News Agency, Jang, who was part of the leader’s inner circle and served as vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, was a "traitor."

Considering that Jang was the main person in DPRK that was for opening and reforming along the Chinese model to some extent, it's not surprising that the Chinese State Media Apparatus would put out such a scenario for his execution to make Kim look like a madman. I'm not saying this is out of the realm of possibilities but this seems pretty far out. This was his aunt's husband after all and someone extremely loyal his father and grandfather. It's just that Kim jr. wanted regime consolidation and Jang had too many people loyal to him in every aspect of the Party, Military to some extent, foreign ministries, and higher end foreign currency earning outlets. Here's a look at the regime shakeup: http://www.dailynk.com/english/read.php?num=11328&cataId=nk00400

The only remote possible strategy for survival might have been to kill a few dogs with kicks to the head and then lead the pack to eating the dead dogs. Then lead that pack against those who were watching the ordeal.

Top-down control must become a vicious cancer, because it must destroy everything by preventing annealing thus to survive people must violate the control. Annealing is precisely localized freedom.

The irony is how readers may not realize we are approaching top-down control in our own countries.

Be it satirical or not, his uncle's death is is less gruesome & brutal than the deaths of thousands of North Koreans who died of mass starvation while Kim Jong Un lived it up & PRC is his sponsor & collaborator.

North Korean leader's uncle was not killed by hungry dogs

Quote
Kim’s uncle, who had been the No. 2 person in the North Korean government, was most likely killed by firing squad before his execution was announced on Dec. 13.

The fictitious story first appeared on a satirical Chinese website where it was posted by editor Pyongyang Choi Seongho. That story was lifted almost verbatim and reported in Wen Wei Po, a Hong Kong tabloid. Soon after, it was published in English in the Singapore newspaper Straits Times.

After that, the Guardian and blogger Trevor Powell report, several Western news organizations published the story without doing any independent reporting or fact-checking.

The Guardian called the incident “… an astonishing example of the media echo chamber gone awry."

The media not fact checking a North Korea story? Surely not.

The real question is, how could they possibly fact check a story like this? Foreign journalists are at the top of the list of people who wouldn't be able to get into the country. Let's just put it this way: if the story has specific detail, and it's out of North Korea, realise instantly that there's no way of proving that it's true.

The only people that are allowed in or out are political figures from North Korea or other countries. And in the case of those from the outside, it's a really picky selection process. Dennis Rodman counts as a political figure, apparently (and in the context he went to North Korea, it was to make a politically motivated appearance, even if he was just claiming to be visiting his friend Kim Jong Un)

All we know about this report is that someone, who isn't the DRNK leadership, reported the story on a blog. That doesn't mean it isn't true.  It doesn't mean it is either. Someone writing statements down in a public place isn't good enough to prove the contents, that's my basic rule. Dennis Rodman definitely went to North Korea and met with Kim Jong Un though, and it's pretty obvious how we know that's true.

Which breeds of dogs did they used? If it is a small dogs or big dogs. I imagine the suffering does make a difference.

So I couldn't go to North Korea on a holiday if I wanted to, or would I need an invite from Kimmy?  Cheesy

I also heard that Kim Jong has hoofs and horns and sucks people's blood at night.

The extent the media goes to portray someone as the embodiment of evil in preparation for war is so lame. Yet people gobble it up like it's truth without question.

The media has become a parody of itself.

I go by 2 basic principles when trying to second guess the media: how big a barrier is there between me and the story, and how much incentive is there to lie about it?

North Korea is a pretty extreme case. The barrier between me and North Korea is probably unequaled by anything else: I can't go there and neither can anyone I actually trust. And the incentive for the  media to lie is pretty high.

Can tourists get in or is it disallowed to basically most foreigners?

The only people that are allowed in or out are political figures from North Korea or other countries.

Not true.  It's a hassle, but there are private tour operators and regular tourists can visit.

All blood relatives of North Korea’s erstwhile number two, who was executed a month ago, have apparently suffered the same fate, says the S. Korean Yonhap news agency.

Once all powerful, Jang Song-thaek was the ‘regent’ while Kim was still too young to govern after Kim Jong-il’s death. He was executed on December 12, 2013 at the age of 67, after making an alleged attempt to stage a military coup and dethrone his nephew.

Now Kim Jong-un is believed to have ordered the total elimination of his uncle’s biological relatives to demonstrate decisiveness and to clamp down on mutiny with an iron fist, “multiple” sources in Pyongyang told the Seoul-based Yonhap news agency.

Jang Song-thaek’s only daughter, Jang Kum-song, committed suicide in 2006, so the alleged vengeance was wreaked on Jang’s other relatives.

Yonhap maintains that Jang Song-thaek’s elder sister, her husband Jon Yong-jin (N. Korean Ambassador to Cuba), Jang’s nephew Jang Yong-chol (N. Korean Ambassador to Malaysia) and his two sons, both around 20 years old, were slain.

Both diplomats were recalled back to North Korea in early December and executed after their high-ranking relative, Pyongyang sources claim.

Underage sons and daughters and even grandchildren of the abovementioned officials were also reportedly killed.
In the meantime Jang Song-thaek's wife, Kim Kyong-hui, Kim Jong-un’s aunt, is believed to be in a coma after a brain operation.

Yonhap’s source said that some victims put up resistance while being dragged out of their apartments and were shot dead “in front of other people”.

The purge started right after Jang Song-thaek’s execution and is still continuing, as the regime proceeds to expel Jang’s minions from all power structures.

Reportedly, Jang’s indirect relatives, such as the wife of the executed ambassador to Malaysia or other relatives by marriage were not put to death, but exiled to a distant village together with their families.

It is possible to visit North Korea as a tourist but you are not allowed to venture out alone. You are under constant supervision from a 'tour guide' and are taken on mandatory trips to highlight how well the country is doing.

Man eat dogs, dogs eat man. True or false it does not change the facts that  North Korea is shit a country. Ruled by dictatorial communism. Millions died in hunger, millions is in gulags. They are living in fear and hunger with very less opportunity for them to choose from. Just look what happen to South Korea in comparison is like hell and heaven yet they are very same people ruled by different governments.

Are the men of North Korea really being forced to get Kim Jong Un haircuts?

A number of news outlets have picked up on unusual news out of North Korea today: Male citizens of the Hermit Kingdom are being forced to get “Kim Jong Un-style” haircuts.

The story goes that male citizens in North Korean capital Pyongyong have had new guidelines to replicate Kim’s distinctive haircut for the past couple of weeks, and the plan is to go national with the guidelines. As you can probably understand, not everyone is happy with the news. “It doesn’t always go with everyone since everyone has different face and head shapes,” one source was reported as saying.

It’s a crazy story, but where did it come from? And should we believe it?

Well, let’s first consider the source. For example, the BBC picked up the story on its News from Elsewhere blog, sourcing much of the story to the Korea Times, an English-language paper published by the Hankook Ilbo group. The Korea Times, meanwhile, appears to have gotten the story from Radio Free Asia, a non-profit funded in part by the United States government. Radio Free Asia’s story only appears on the Korean-language version of its Web site, though a representative says that it will be translated soon.

North Korea it's a perfect proof that any form of rule (liberal republic, socialist republic, etc. - doesn't matter) can be converted into an absolute monarchy.  Kim Jong is a king here, that's it.

The DPRK is there because you need a fool to purchase your missile technology and another fool to buy your atomic bomb technology.

You always need a fool to be worse than you.

So when the world's spotlight is looking into your own abuses you can then say "Hey! Relax! Maybe some monks in Tibet are burning themselves to death. OK. But It is not as if we have them eaten alive by ravenous dogs! We do have some limits!"

Also, make sure words like "people" and "democracy" are part of your country's name, especially if you are a fool.

[...]
Although the DPRK officially describes itself as a Juche Korean-style socialist republic[10] and elections are held, it is widely considered a dictatorship that has been described as totalitarian and Stalinist[19][2][20] with an elaborate cult of personality around the Kim family. The Workers' Party of Korea, led by a member of the ruling family,[20] holds de facto power in the state and leads the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland of which all political officers are required to be a member.[21] Juche, an ideology of self-reliance initiated by the country's first President, Kim Il-sung, became the official state ideology, replacing Marxism–Leninism, when the country adopted a new constitution in 1972.[22][23] In 2009, references to Communism (Chosŏn'gŭl: 공산주의) were removed from the country's constitution.[24]
The means of production are owned by the state through state-run enterprises and collectivized farms, and most services such as healthcare, education, housing and food production are state funded or subsidized.[25] In the 1990s North Korea suffered from a famine and continues to struggle with food production. In 2013, the UN identified North Korean government policies as the primary cause of the shortages and estimated that 16 million people required food aid.[26][27] North Korea's health care system has been a subject of controversy: the World Health Organization described it as "the envy of the developing world" while Amnesty International claims that it suffers from barely functioning hospitals, poor hygiene and epidemics.[28]
North Korea follows Songun, or "military-first" policy in order to strengthen the country and its government.[29] It is the world's most militarized society, with a total of 9,495,000 active, reserve, and paramilitary personnel. Its active duty army of 1.21 million is the 4th largest in the world, after China, the U.S., and India.[30] It is a nuclear-weapons state and has an active space program.[31][32][33]

I understand the theory from all my socialist friends:

"No true Socialist States were ever realized as all nations calling themselves "Socialist" during the 20th, 21th century were a fraud, a disguised Monarchy. Just wait! Wait for the 23rd century when, this time, TRUUUUEEE Socialism will be... De Facto! Sure Some may die in the way... But think of all of those who will benefit from it. At least they won't be dying for the Capitalism cause! and that, my friend, would a true Benediction... If I was not an atheist, being a socialist and all.

This time, this time, it will work!"

The truth is that any revolutionary ways are stupid, it will never work in this way. Wartime is the only purpose for such type of economy, it won't be effective during the peacetime. For the peacetime you need a mixed economy, any changes should be implemented through many consequent reforms, otherwise you will see nothing except the seize of power, dictatorship and famine.

Lenin (a father of Marxism-Leninism) understood this and developed the New Economic Policy, a theory of mixed private & public ownership based economy. He and his followers were criticized for this idea by the rest of the party members, but it was able to restore the ruined economy during only a few years. By 1928, agricultural and industrial production had been restored to the 1913 (pre-World War I and pre-Civil War) level.

Unfortunately, Stalin along with group of his followers made a decision to abolish NEP and replace it with the radical version of Marxist economy. Mao Zedong in China and North Korea leaders are stalinism followers, they are doomed to repeat the same errors. China and Vietnam started an implementation of NEP-style mixed economy a long time ago.

China: 1978, stalinism followers were removed by Deng Xiaoping and his anti-stalinist group followers;
Vietnam: 1987, Party made the decision to start implementation of mixed economy.

Now China and Vietnam are developing very quickly, much faster than their neighbours. China and Vietnam are socialist republics, so... Yes, it works and it will continue work for a long time, which couldn't be said about the so-called "liberal" regimes. Roll Eyes

I suppose that it's in Tibet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibet_Autonomous_Region
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_support_for_Tibetan_independence

This movement doesn't care about economy, money or whatever. They simply wish to convert Tibet Autonomous Region into independent country.

There is a disputed territory, and sometimes such self-immolation events are performed here. Territorial disputes never have been free (Remember the Northern Ireland and other records in the history of Europe), in any form of government. It has nothing in common with subject of our discussion.

It has nothing to do with our conversation because you have decided to. It would be as if one would be collecting voodoo dolls for their naive beauty while rejecting the very purpose of their creation for being an atheist and rejecting superstition.
If you say the action of China, its politburo, its policy, its military might and Tibet monks immolating themselves in public are not connected actions then yes nothing in the world will convince you otherwise, beautiful colored charts included.

Now is the Kim Jong family pro comunists or pro capitalists? "It does not matter, as it is a monarchy" I can hear my socialist friends tell me  Smiley

I guess that is possible.  I learn about this a while ago and was understanding that this was a legitimate story.  Now that you point it out I think there was a strong element of speculation in the article that I read.
Though I should add that I don't think it is totally out of the realm of possibility.

Solid evidence from NK? I remember the images of starving children back in the days on TV. I am sure it is not too difficult to find unsing google. Obviously everything can be counter argued as fake and american propaganda without any solid evidence also.  So why bother. People escaping to China sai to be witnesses. Again could be actors hired by Foxnews in the 90s before the foxnews channel ever existed.

North Korean Officials Target Hair Salon Over Kim Jong-un Diss

Apparently not all publicity is good publicity in the eyes of North Korea — especially when it comes to state-mandated haircuts.

A London hair salon was targeted last week by alleged North Korean embassy officials over an unflattering advertisement that features the country's leader Kim Jong-un and his infamous 'do, according to multiple reports.

The ad promoted a 15% discount on haircuts at the M&M Hair Academy throughout April, and aimed to be a clever way to bolster sales. It included a smiling photo of Kim, with the words "Bad hair day?" emblazoned across his chest. The ad went up on April 9, the BBC reported.

Unfortunately for the salon, however, the North Korean embassy is only a mile away.

Two men showed up, and began taking pictures and writing notes the day after the ad went up, the The Guardian reported. They then entered the salon, and asked who was responsible for the ad, reportedly claiming that it was disrespectful and had to come down.

"I told them this is England and not North Korea and told them to get their lawyers," Mo Nabbach, M&M's manager, told the London Evening Standard. "The two guys were wearing suits and they were very serious. It was very threatening."

Nabbach said he took the ad down, but was encouraged by clients to put it back up in the window. He eventually contacted local police after asking the men to leave. They did not specifically say where they worked, but a Metropolitan Police Service spokesperson told The Guardian that officers had been in contact with the North Korean embassy.

On Monday, the North Korean embassy sent a letter to the UK's Foreign Office, complaining about the ad, according to the Evening Standard. The letter demanded that the Foreign Office take "necessary action to stop the provocation."

Kim's government allegedly mandated last month that all male university students are now required to sport the block-like hairdo, although the Associated Press reported that visitors to North Korea have not noticed a change in hairstyle choice.

The North Korean embassy did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment.

How can you research this story? How can you have access to information from North Korea? Real information?
Read their national newspaper and you'll have a clue how they manipulate information.

Whenever they have these type of stories I wonder if it is the truth or just a weird rumor they spill out to make people fear the North.
Albeit the key word was it really 120 dogs
Not 119 or 121 Smiley

Any normal person that opened his mind and research a little bit would know the truth.

That it's a made up story with no evidence to back it up, or a rumor Smiley

North K., the funniest place on Earth.

Probably not. Even with the extreme dictatorship regime and communism there I still think there are places on this damn earth we humans have managed to get even worse.

Just thinking of the African countries with their ethnic fighting that in some countries are going on for years. Not even talking about living standards

I'm surprise to know there is a north korean embassy in london.

Even during the height of the cold war, the US and the USSR maintained embassies on each other's land. So why so surprising about North Korea? After all they have UN membership, and is recognized by the UK as well.

There are journalists and aid organizations who operate inside North Korea. Also, a number of North Korean sports stars currently play for teams around the world. So there is at least some need for the embassies.  Grin

Well I would need to see it myself to acquire the truth until then can only go by the media and well Caveat Emperor they are not always quite honest about the truth.
Will believe that it is pretty bad though the extent is the question.

North Korea is a very poor country with a massive military spending. Kim don't need any aid organizations, but the people need them. And I never said that North Korea is a heaven on earth where everybody is happy.

No , that wasn't for you , the part with the heaven on earth. I written it in advance for an idiot here on the forum Smiley.

Kind of like why the Soviet Union helped out Cuba
Of course one side won over the other in terms of economics and the Soviet supported countries were left reeling for a while
With NK it was the Sino-Soviet Split and the Chinese realignment that made the current structure and thorn in the side for China lol.

The Japanese are very hard working and very intelligent. They didn't received much of aid from the US. What they have achieved, they did it on their own. Remember that, even before the WW2 Japan was a very advanced society. The average Japanese during the 1930s were much more educated than the Spanish or Italians of that time.

I don't get the point of this story. Is it supposed to be shock for the sake of shock? There are multiple countries that use capital penalty for corruption and bribery offenses, most prominent being China, and we don't care really much about them.
What difference does it make if people are killed by bullets, noose or dogs: they all lose the same and only thing in the end, that is their lives.

There is a difference. For corruption charges, if it is that serious then it is OK to conduct the capital punishment by shooting. But throwing someone to pigs is outright barbaric. I don't think that it will send the right message to the public.

I'll concede that the Japanese miracle was caused by their determination to retrieve their place in the international system but discounting the US to much would miss the whole point of it being a miracle
The economy was devastated after WW2 maybe not to the same extreme degree as Europe but they had it pretty tough
That said I do credit the Japanese themselves for creating the right policies and integrating industries towards their economic recovery
After all even if you don't make to much guaranteed work security Shūshin koyō means that you would work hard for your company
Not socialist at all since there were not that many jobs after the war, and job security became paramount to personal security, and economic reform.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_post-war_economic_miracle

Also one must factor the Lost Decade notably started around the same time the Soviet Union collapsed and there most certainty is a relationship there and not causation

I was wondering who will be next on Kim Jong-un's hitlist. Now I've got the answer:

Aunt of North Korea's Kim 'disappears' from propaganda film

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2608243/Dictators-cut-Aunt-North-Koreas-Kim-disappears-propaganda-film.html

Quote
Kim Kyong-hui, 67, is the widow of Jang Song-taek, who was recently executed, and while it was believed she would always remain 'safe' under her nephew's brutal regime, analysts say that her disappearance from the documentary is ominous.

There are dogs in north korea?  Huh

Dog meat is one of the delicacies there. And they don't want to import any food products from outside. So what does that mean? They might be having millions if not billions of dogs.

Don't you know that dog meat is the national dish of South Korea (sic)?

If any of the dogs miraculously escape from being shredded to pieces in the minefields, they are definitely going to be shredded by the Korean chefs and added to the Chilli Dog Bow Bow soup.

Ha-ha True I just kind of assumed they would not want to go that way in the first place since getting through the forest would be a migration of doom lol.

I guess those that do survive and make it will be lunch as well (This begs the question)
Where do they go if they do not want to be lunch lol.
