I want to create a coin based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Any other fans out there? What would you like to see in this coin? I'm looking for both series ideas as well as ideas that make it very Morporkean. Feel free to toss out names as well. If we get several popular names, I'll start a poll to decide what we call it. I"m doing this for fun and because I like the idea, so any input is welcome.

Hi Coins like this may find a place on the sci-fi exchange, I like the idea of fan-coins. They may not revolutionize the world, but they're cool and fun to trade with (needs cool logo and graphics like Cthulhu Coin/Offerings). I love Terry Pratchett, and will give this a thought or two I've even been known to do a decent logo myself - will post if I have any ideas. K.

Away with your logic! Yes, A-m uses the Dollar, but we might run into issues calling it that. That's th reason I was looking for a very "Pratchett" name for the coin without using the actual currency name. I'm a rabid Pritchett fan as well, and also aim to mine almost strictly for that reason. I actually really like Rhinu for the name, that way it could be solid gold, and not mostly pot metal.

I don't aim to get rich with this coin(but certainly won't complain if I do) Logo ideas are ALWAYS appreciated. I am nowhere near a graphic designer, so all of my logos look like a monkey flung poo at a wall from 20ft. I intend for this to be a team effort

Oh, and fair launch with no premine.
If this is done, then you will get support, and i'll not only help without charge, but donate to the cause from time to time (as I believe others will with a fair and friendly coin like this)
Anyway, MPD would work (Morporkian Dollars) - the term is used in the book and US isn't the only country with dollars - I think it's only gonna cause trouble if you call them simply dollars.

I wouldn't know how to go about premining anyway. it's always kind ofbugged me when a coin is launched and it's mined to shit before anyone even gets their rig in the game. My mining rig is fairly small anyway(I typically run 400kh/s). I'm not asking for donations, but won't turn them down, either. If anyone knows a good dev, point them my way.

Also, if a small percent could go to a fund for 'alzheimer's society' - how cool would that be, great advertising as a minor bonus, but to actually have something to forward society in general would be awesome. As we know, Mr Pratchett suffers from this, and set up the society himself (if i'm not mistaken - which i may be). With some support, I think we could show how a tribute-coin could really work, and do some good to boot. Just throwing ideas out there, hope you like them K.

I know a couple of coins have a setup where a % of every block goes to a certain address, so it must be 'not too difficult' for a dev to do it. Getting a dev to do it is the tricky part. I'll watch this space, and help if I can. K.

So are we thinking this should be a coin /w a very high number of total coins, or should we make it a more rare coin? I like the idea of diff starting at 0 and adjusting every x number of blocks. Should the payout be constant, or decrease over time?

Might be easier for trading purposes if the coin had a lower total. I could easily see there being a trading potential with this coin for buying/selling Discworld Novels if it ever hit an exchange.

I was thinking have somewhere between 50-70mil coins total, block reward of 15 with 2 per black going to Alzheimer's society. block time would be about 2-2.5min.
it would be awesome of this became a currency to buy all things discworld.

I think a model that works with the long term view has more potential. Low block reward of say 10 to start, and halving every 2 years, to a minimum of 1 coin per block. The coin should reach 1 coin per block after distributing around 80 to 160 milion, roughly. This would allow fast transaction times without diluting the market. Also the Fund should hold the coins until it is a good time to start siphoning of small amounts as donations in FIAT to the cause itself. I would suggest the fund be 2.5%, not including transaction fees (as not to discourage miners), until the block reward reaches 1 (If alzheimer's is solved before then*, then the funding will go to the next big disease**) * We can all hope it is ** This would be voted on by the community. K.

that sounds good. I'll split the difference and go w/ 120mil, block reward halving every 2 years w/ a minimum of 1 coin reward. as for the fund, I agree that 2.5 to 5%(a poll might be set up to decide more exactly) being set aside in an account until it makes sense to convert. what does FIAT mean? I've seen it a lot, but never really understood it. If Alzheimer's gets cured(something fervently hoped for), then I agree we should hold a vote to see which disease/condition/cause should get the proceeds.
Discouraging miners is a bad thing, both for the future of the coin, and any good that it could possibly do. Is there a way to make the account that the fund % goes into transparent, so that anybody interested could see how much is in it, and if "money' gets drawn out? that way honest folks can be kept honest.

Well provided there is a block explorer, I believe making the address public would make it transparent?

Well provided there is a block explorer, I believe making the address public would make it transparent? right... I knew that(it's been a long day). Would there be a good coin model out there to use for this? I know that IFC has the diminishing return, but I think that;s after x number of blocks, not x years.
