First post - forced to share it here. For those that have asked the question about the Z87-G45 board in other topics, I hope a forum search leads you here. I've had one hell of a time like you to get this going, so if it works for you, and you're happy, feel free to tip 13KPB3KqfHUSYVhBBSs47sLZdM9NTcJgBp What you need to do is: 1) In BIOS, set PEG 1-3 to Gen2 - It's under Advanced then PCI 2) Install into all slots except for slot 4. 3) Use a wire to short the pins on Slot7 like this. So that it all looks like this. https://www.dropbox.com/s/30i1btuuvoh625n/2014-01-04%2015.15.01.jpg4) Use this... DDU Removal whilst in safe mode, to uninstall all the drivers you've installed so far. http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/display_driver_uninstaller_download.html5) Reinstall on reboot, this new working driver. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vnemo9n1vmyr812/AMD%20Catalyst%2013.1%20WHQL.rar6) Have fun

Is this supposed to work on a 'MSI Z87-G45 Gaming' (Version E7821IMS v1.6)?
I can get myself the mobo to recognize max 5 cards, so I followed your guide.
In my case inside the PCI settings pegs are labelled from 0, i.e
PEG0 PEG1 PEG2
I set them all to GEN2.
I also used a wire to connect those pins as in the example screenshot on slot 7.
Unfortunately I am only seeing 4 cards in BIOS eventhough 6 are connected. (slot 4 I left empty as advised)
Thanks

What risers are you using? if all powered 1x, then slot7 shorting will work fine.

I have 5 GPUs working with this board, but can't seem to get the 6th to work. The motherboard won't post. I don't think I'm shorting the 7th slot correctly...did your motherboard not post when you weren't shorting the slot? I'm going to attempt to try it again tomorrow. All on powered 1x risers btw.

Just for the record, my suspicions were correct. If you're not shorting slot 7 correctly and you have 6 GPUs plugged in your mobo will not post. Use ethernet cable strands to short it using the method above.

Hi. Do I have to use Your drivers or can I install new 14.1 for r9 290 ? Do I have to use 1x risers only or can I use 16x as one of them? Thank You. Best Regards.

for 4 GPU's or more you need the 13.1 TP driver.
Otherwise you can use latest if you wish.

hey there.
We are trying to get 5 cards working on this motherboard.
But we dont have a very powerful PSU, so we used 2 PSUs and connected them using the paperclip trick.
Should we use one PSU for only the molex risers for the GPUs? or does it matter at all which PSU is powering which parts?
What the optimal PSU setup if we have one 1250W and one 860W PSU?

I've read that you should use one power supply for the motherboard, hdd, and the risers (and how ever many cards you can run within the wattage) The second power supply should only power cards and nothing else (just use pcie cables and the motherboard cable, paperclipped or otherwise). I thought I had that bookmarked but I can't find it. I'm pretty sure it was on reddit so you can search there. Anyway that's how I have my setup working, but I don't use a paperclip, I bought an adapter. So take that for what it's worth but I'd still research more.

Could someone elaborate a bit more on the "paperclip" thing? Sounds like a shorting thing of some kind, but I haven't heard of it til this thread...
