I understand this will be an open source software product, right? At least I read in white paper that third-party developers will have free access to the entire ecosystem of this platform.

You are correct in the sense that this project will be open to all individuals and organizations. However, anybody that has access to the ecosystem will participate (accessing data, building projects, etc) via HRO tokens. So the platform isn't entirely free, but it's drastically cheaper than anything of its kind like a Virus Total.
