Hello, I'm fascinated by how all of newbies got to where we are right now - here? What's your story re: how you found and, perhaps, fell in love with bitcoin?

My story is quite simple: I spent a lot of time volunteering in South America as the bitcoin community was beginning to form. In the communities I was working in, barter and non-fiat transactions were oftentimes a norm - and I began to understand the value of those transactions on a functional and, even, spiritual level. When I finally stuck my head out of the water, I realized that the promise of bitcoin in creating a more accessible, more equal, more trustworthy globally accessible economy was huge. Thus beganeth the love affair...

I heard about it through the media coverage of Silk Road etc, as did many others.

Through a documentary on a local newsprogram. One pub started accepting bitcoin as payment. Though I didn't really look into it until about 1 year later (unfortunatly).

I read an article earlier this year about Bitcoins and how it was worth $5 in January and then $200. I should have invested back then.

Which pub? There's one in Oxford that accepts Feathercoins.

I have a crypto-currency-obsessed friend and his entusiasm got me interested in all this jazz too. I think it's a bit too late for me to get in to Bitcoin, so I'm just wandering arround alternatives and experimenting with them. Funny thing is, he was advertising Bitcoin a couple years ago but few listened and many are sorry now Smiley

It's never too late to invest in bitcoin if you believe in the vision...

If you're in it for the $, then the volatility of the market will get to you...

But the vision of a currency that doesn't depend on political and economic systems and that dissolves borders... that's a vision to run with. If you invest in that, you can't lose!

I'll try this one more time.

I first heard about bitcoins a couple years ago.  At some point I checked them out, thought they were cool but didn't want to dump and money into them so I left it.  In November when the media started picking up bitcoin I check in again and found that you could mine them.  I started checking things out and got hooked.

I read about it in different forums. I was super skeptical at first and I even thought people were nuts for buying BTC for $2. I then saw it go up to $200 and my mind was blown. Since then I've been a firm believer in the potential of BTC.

I heard of it on a poker site before it was a dollar a coin, but as an idiot I did nothing till it was 1000, go figure. Now I want to earn some but can't figure out how yet, but working on it. I at least understand it and like the concept and will support the eco system it's created. Anything to give options to the evil central banks.

i was walking down the road and found a bitcoin laying on the ground face up. Smiley

A co-worker told me about them couple years ago. Even brought in physical bitcoin mints to show off. Was pretty cool but blew it off as another whatever thing. Wish I would have listened and invested when they were around $20-$30. Only after they sky rocketed I got interested into it and now am mining scrypt coins with my GPUs on the side. Still new to it but hopefully that new hobby can make me some spare change for fun things. The idea behind the virtual coin and open boarders is pretty interesting and I hope it will further evolve.

I found bitcoins just by coming across another post online. Unfortunately it was around May 2013 when the ASIC miners were just coming out and profitability with GPUs was really low Sad
