how concerned should i be with ram. is there a rule of thumb i should be using?

most of my miners have 3 or 4 5850s

and i put 2 or 4 gig in each miner.

i dont want to loose hashpower just from skimping on ram

One of my miners has 1gb and it works like a champ, all cards putting out what they should.  Memory use never goes above 50% and never dips into swap space.  I'm running Linux though, if on a Windows box, RAM requirements might be higher.
