Hey guys, I've been mining for a while but just got around to registering for an account here.  My question is regarding shares and how they work in reference to mining.  In a pool, how exactly do shares work?  What are they exactly?  It seems to me that they determine how much of a block you get, but I could be wrong.  And you obviously don't get the full block, even if you discover it, right?  Thanks for any answers.

Your contribution gets shared among all who devoted their hash power to mine that block. How the sharing will happen actually varies from pool to pool and depends on the pool operator. If u believe u can find a block alone, u need to try out solo mining.
