I have been trying to trade on cryptsy, but the sell orders are taking to long to go through (as I am writing this I have been trying to sell 12.397 XPM back into BTC and it has been over an hour) is something on my end I am doing wrong? Is it better to sell in whole numbers? What can I do to make the trades happen faster?

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Just low volume most likely. Try buying/selling into the market a bit more and your orders will execute faster. Or find an exchange that has higher volume on the pairs you are trading.
