Help with mining set up

Hi,

I am in the process of learning about bitcoin mining. I must say now that I am not into making money from it, I just fancy being involved.

I have looked at the gui miner software here. Can anyone tell me which asics it is compatible with please?

You could start from you own laptop first, you may not mining much from it,  but you can know the way how it works.

you can play with the laptop to learn a bit about how it works, but i strongly advise against mining for any significant amount of time on one. they tend to cost more in electricity than you would gain by mining, and they usually run too hot and can damage the laptop with extended mining (bad airflow and tightly compressed components). Wont hurt for a bit here and there for new coin launches and such though so you can get your feet wet!

any mining could be profitable if the price get high enough.  spend what you can afford only.

yup, you can mop up with a newly released coin if you are in on the first blocks, but I wouldn't sic it on an established one 24/7. you will melt your lappy without much payoff.

GUI Miner is a miner with GUI and it can be use with command line miner (ex, cgminer( https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer /) or bfgminer(http://bfgminer.org/) ).

And cgminer or bfgminer support ASIC miner.

you can add cgminer or bfgminer to your guiminer's folder.
