This guide will show you how to overclock your reference Nvidia GTX 780 and hopefully help you get an avg of 650kh/s scrypt mining. Other nvidia card owners can still use most of this, but please do be careful.

My pc specs:
CPU: Intel i5-3570k @ 4.6ghz
PSU: Corsair AX650w Gold
Mobo: MSI Z77-GD65-GAMING
GPU: MSI GTX 780 Reference @ 1229mhz/6008mhz
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8gb 2x4gb ram sticks
Storage: OCZ Agility 3 120gb SSD

Now before I begin, you must know that overclocking and flashing custom bios's carry the risks of bricking and/or burning up your card, even though it's quite unlikely if you follow my instructions and do your own research. (I have flashed around 20 times on my 780 without any problems)

Continue at your own risk!

Flashing skyn3t's custom vbios (if you want to overclock):

1. Download the latest NVFlash on this page http://www.guru3d.com/files_categories/videocards_handy_utilities.html and use 7zip, winrar or your preferred zip utility to extract it to your desktop.

2. Download a skyn3t vbios (I use 3A for reference cards) from http://www.overclock.net/t/1393791/official-nvidia-gtx-780-owners-club and extract the .rom file to the NVFlash folder on your desktop, or wherever you placed the NVFlash files. You can use another vbios, but make sure its compatible with your card type.

3. Download and install this version of GPU-Z http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=48112&d=1344772659
Run GPU-Z and click the little button with a green arrow next to the bios version, and save your stock vbios somewhere safe.

4. Now, I recommend closing all applications you don't need open (skype, browsers, etc etc..)

5. Open command prompt as administrator, and change the directory to the NVFlash folder: "cd C:\Users\username\Desktop\NVFlash"
and run these commands:
   "nvflash --protectoff"
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 vbios-name.rom"    <<<------ Obviously change the .rom name to match the downloaded .rom file. This command will flash the new vbios. DO NOT TOUCH the computer while it is flashing the rom!!!

7. Reboot

8. Reinstall video drivers (if needed).

OVERCLOCKING:   Shocked Shocked Shocked

1. Install an Nvidia OC utility. I have used EVGA Precision X, MSI Afterburner Beta's and Gigabyte OC Guru II.

2. Overclock  Grin Make sure you have a good understanding of what overclocking is and how to properly do it. Only make small changes at a time! skyn3t's thread is good place to get help:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1393791/official-nvidia-gtx-780-owners-club

Here are my oc specs:
GPU clock: 1229mhz (+275mhz)
Memory clock: Stock (little to no advantage in hash rates even at +700mhz)
Voltage: 1.150v
Power target: 150%
Fan Profile: 100% @ 75c (temp ranges from 78-83c depending on room temp)

MINING:
1. Download the latest CUDA miner here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0
and extract it to wherever.

2. Open the cudaminer folder and inside it there should be another .zip file, open it and drag the contents to the x86 folder.

3. Open the x86 folder and create a new .txt file in this format (with your pools info):
Code:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
cudaminer -o stratum+tcp://stratum-url:port -O user.worker:workerpass
Save and rename the .txt file with .bat ie. "cudaminer.bat"

4. Run the .bat and hash away. Optionally, you can add arguments in the .bat to add performance. Here is my config for 650kh/s
Code:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
cudaminer -i 0 -C 1 -l T12x32 -H 1 -m 1 --no-autotune -o stratum+tcp://stratum-url:port -O user.worker:workerpass
Read the cudaminer thread or readme file for more info.

For mining, yes, AMD wins the battle. But for many people that bought their card for gaming before they knew about mining, this could be a decent starting point for them. I would have gone with 2 280x's if I would have been informed sooner.

I also wrote this guide as a way to get out of the newbie jail.
