Hello world. This message is to verify that I am in fact not a machine. Feels like one of those online courses I took at cheap state college.
Anyway, my question - since I'm being forced to post here rather than making contributions to portions of the site that people actually read - is a mathematical one, I think. How much of the current block reward is made up of transaction fees and how much is new currency right now? At what point will the majority of block rewards be transaction fees? Hope that satisfies the mods or bots that let us move on to the big-kid's forum.

Don't belittle the Newbies forum. I like reading it, interesting questions and discussions pass by which make you think about Bitcoin in whole new ways.  The current block reward is 25BTC and the amount of fees is rather erratic. Take a look at blockexplorer.com. The first transaction of a block shows which part is reward and which part are fees. Going back 10 blocks it's approximately 0.05BTC per block. The change-over point is hard to predict, depends on the popularity of Bitcoin in the future. Pure speculation. |
