Hi, I want to start mining and I'm looking for the right cryptocurrency.
I learned from this forum that is no more convinient to start mining bitcoin in 2014.
Is it different with the litecoin?
Can I mine both at the same time or I need a machine to powerfull?

Both Bitcoin and Litecoin are not worth mining unless you have a top of the range rig. Stick/start with one of the up and coming alt coins.

How much would it cost a top of the range rig? Do you know a site where I can find some information about the machine to buy?

What do you recomend right now, just as a matter of interest?

Can we really determine which currency is better without any knowledge of cryptography or programing?  Sad

Well, on a 90kh/s card, in a week you can get about 0.15 LTC so I can make a safe bet that on BTC mining you will get significantly lower reward ( as BTC is mined with asics now )
I still would like to know which coin would have the best mining value at the moment, if anybody might want to enlighten us.

How much would it cost a top of the range rig? Do you know a site where I can find some information about the machine to buy?
A whole rig from scratch can cost from around $300-$400 to around 5-10 grand  ( depending how TOP you want your rig to be. )
That's a calculation I made a month ago while trying to find the best parts for a rig mining LTC.

It depends on your rig and the block rewards of a particular currency.

http://www.coinchoose.com/

Look at this website to check what's the most convenient coin to mine.
But I beg you please do some research before posting and spending money!

I find Litecoin repulsive.

A copy, no innovation, and no future.

The only value it has is as a backup to bitcoin and as a distractor for governments.

But a coin like NXT will overtake litecoin because it's innovative, and once it has overtaken Litecoin it will take over the role as THE backup of bitcoin, after which Litecoin will die due to no purpose served any longer.

That is my wish, and my prediction.

Mining litecoin? Short term you can make money, long term any investment in this will be lost I think.

But basically it comes down to innovation right?

Those coins that are technologically superior, and perhaps truly decentralised, anonymous and protected from 51% attack will be the ones we use in the future..

.. because when the big financial institutions and governments eventually fight back, we'll need something the NSA and others cant hack.

Or.... are these just a big ball of assumptions and Coinye will be huge because its funny! Grin

Aren't pretty much all coins essentially a copy of Bitcoin?

Isn't NXT a scamcoin? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=357461.0

No truth is here. Try to invest in many coins and may be, you win. Future will tell.

it depends on the equipment you are using. If you are using a CPU alone then only CPU only low competition might be useful but if you have a GPU you have a wider range of options (popular alt-currencies other than BTC/LTC).
