Hi Guys,

I've created MCU controlled temperature regulator.

Controller adjusts fan speed to achieve target (selected) ASIC temperature.

It resolves issue with "DIE off" problem ( some DIEs need higher temperature ).

Howto connect sensors: https://vimeo.com/83987115
Howto setup: http://youtu.be/WT6SBwGRemU

3 sensors version - 95 EUR [ or BTC eqiv. ] - you can control 3 modules
[ chosen hardware is unable to handle more then 3 sensors + fan control ]

does this work for the 8vrm version too?

sure (if it's issue with cores where higher temperature solves problem ) - it just measures temperature and controller adjusts cooling fan speed to achieve selected temperature.

For me, cca 40C temperature on ALU plated ( bottom part of ASIC cooler ) is enough to start dead cores.
Before this solution I've partly covered cooling fan with paper but after all cores kicked in temperature goes too high - so I
have to keep eyes on it - or it went too low and cores off

So Die 0 cores automatically turn back to dead if the temperature drops?  I was thinking of trying this on my own by unplugging the fan and then later plugging it back in.

Yes that's it.

Before this solution I also have to unplug/cover the fan but when temperature drops down ( pool stall , root temperature changed , …. ) DIE turned OFF. So 10 - 15% time I was mining with 3/4 hashing power.

Also covering front fans is not good idea because VRMs also need cooling.

i can not see it right in the video. does this need any soldering?

No soldering - no KNC Miner hardware modification

1. attach temperature sensor to aluminium plate ( we don't need to measure directly ASIC temp )
2. disconnect FAN connector from KNC module
3. connect PWM injector connector to KNC module
4. connect FAN connector to injector

We just need to measure temperature and to connect to fan PWM pin

I've changed price to EUR , BTC is floating

Is it possible to turn up the temp on a Die without affecting the rest of them with bertmod?  I've been avoiding installing that since it isn't official KnC.

You don't need to install bertmod - because this controller is totally KNC Miner independent. It has it's own software and it's own temperature sensor.
To configure controller you have to attach it to PC ( win, mac osx , linux ) with USB cable and setup up target temperature
for each core ( you can cover fan and wait until cores kick in and set that temperature as target temp ( there is command in controller config menu to set current temperature as target temp. )  - temp. controller will keep that temperature by adjusting FAN speed )

I guess my question is off-topic.  I was just wondering if bertmod lets you turn up the temp?

With bertmod you are unable to increase temperature - it's only "monitor"

Also - in case that cooling fan will fail ( dead HW ), cooling fan will get full speed ( no "slow down" signal from controller ). For me it's working 4 weeks without "DIE off"

Someone asked by email:
Q: is target temperature predefined ?
A: yes but you can change it [ predefined is temperature that works for me ]

I think each ASIC has slightly different temp that helps cores running

Good idea, does it resolves all stability issues aswell ?

I don't know about stability issues with KNC Miner.

It solves problem with cores / dies which where off until temperature reaches certain level. Covering fan with just a paper
or so can cause overheating or die off if temperature drops.
