I now have 10 of these 200 GH/s machines hashing away quite happily here and have been through most potential problems with them, from Chinese changing subnet masks, to faulty WiFi modules and heat issues.

If I can be of any help to anyone who has one and is having problems please feel free to ask in here or PM, would be happy to offer help if I can.

Do you know what stock mhz and temps are? And what a safe overclock would be? Thanks!

without upgraded cooling we found that they tend to run best at 1400. Beyond that the speed increase was negated by the fault increase.

We have them case open, in the loading bay of a warehouse. totally unheated and uninsulated, with a few large house fans blowing on them. At this we can keep temps to sub 42.

They are seriously not like Jupiters, the colder you keep them, the less errors and the faster the hash rate.

I guess environmental factors are massive but for us 1400 in a really cool environment gave us the best balance of reliability and speed.

Hi studio,

Thanks for offering to help.  I have a customer who's getting the following Cgminer API error on his 230G Avalon2 clone.

[Firmware Version] => 20131110
cgminer: 176747f
cgminer-openwrt-packages: 0e12b1b
luci: 346e3e7
Socket connect failed: Connection refused

He has confirmed the following for me:

- using pool stratum.btcguild.com:3333
- configuration page looks good, no typos
- API Allow is correctly set to "W:127.0.0.1"
- he can ping out to stratum.btcguild.com and IP resolves correctly
- "cgminer" process is not currently running when we check Processes tab
- he has tried other pools aside from btcguild with no luck

Any idea what the problem might be?  I tested the device before shipping and it was working fine.

Thanks for any help.  I have been reading that updating the firmware might help, but I'm not sure where to get the firmware.

Hi guys.  Okay we figured this out, although I'm still a bit confused.  The "broadcast" address in his LAN settings was 192.168.0.255 however he was on the 192.168.1.X subnet so the broadcast was incorrect.  However I checked my own 230G miner and it was configured the same, and working.  I'm thinking maybe re-saving the LAN settings kicked something into working.  Anyway, he is happy and it's hashing now.  Thanks for the help!

Hi Studio.  I have a miner that is not hashing, hope you can help.  On the Cgminer Status screen the top Summary portion and section related to the Pools is loading but the bottom Avalon section says:

"This section contains no values yet"

On the Cgminer API page there are no stats coming from the Avalon units.

Any ideas?

Those settings are fine, so it isn't that. Are you certain your network is set up and running. The only thing I would say is that at 1500 these can draw more than 1000W from the wall so unless you have a 1200 or more PSU I would not go above 1400.

Can you post the print out  of the logs from when you save and apply CGMiner settings.

Not too sure, but my Avalon may be a 2nd gen, in which case my support question belongs here as well, if I may: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=435863.0

OK read your thread, you are doing everything not right !!

This is a standalone unit

you need to connect it to your laptop via ethernet, if it is factory set it will be 192.168.0.100

if it has been pre mined (it will have been) its IP may have been changed.

How familiar are you with networks and submasks?

Basically you need to set your ethernet IPv4 to the same subnet mask as the miner and then find its IP address

so first set your mask to 192.168.0.xxx

try using your browser to connect to

192.168.0.100

if that doesn't work get an IP scanner and scan the range

192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255

if its IP doesn't appear change your laptop subnet mask to 192.168.1.xxx

then run a scan on teh range 192.168.1.xxx to 192.168.1.xxx

by now you should have found its IP address.

From there you need to enter the web address to your browser and connect to the machine.

I don't have a router, I'm using a WiFi hotspot. But I took the device to a friend who has a router, set up the IPs correctly and couldn't get the device to mine. Then I tried using the device's WiFi connectivity - still no result. I think the tplink card may not be working right. This is why I'm trying to run it through a laptop in the first place.

Edit: Also, in the screenshot above I see a setting "Avalon Chip(Default 110nm)". My interface doesn't have that line for some reason. Is there a special kind of firmware being used?

If you don't have the chip option then you are using the wrong firmware for sure.

Could you post a link to the correct firmware?
