Think of Bitcoin as the mighty US Dollar or the Great British Pound, and Doge and Coinye as worthless Zimbabwean Dollars lol.

Didn't Zimbabwe start using US dollars?

Yes, although they also use other stronger currencies too.

Although diversity is good, a lot of altcoins released these days are pump and dump scams.  I'm staying away for now and using "major" players  Tongue

Yeah, the alt-coins don't hurt us.  People are learning the software.  But do be careful where you put your money.

So many different currencies are definately not needed. Most are just pure clones without any innovation or new thought. It's simply about who came up first with this "phantastic" idea. This is sad because they take the air away from those who actually incorporate true innovation and that were developed in a diverse community, like Gridcoin. It is this kind of diversity all miners should be supporting.

Hopefully, after the initial surge, market will regulate itself, and we'll end up with 2-3 core crypto currencies.

Bitcoin and litecoin will remain. Others won't.

That's what I think.

Problem is that they're all just clones....

Doesn't anyone have any original ideas?

But, some people just keep thinking "Oh, xxx coins have a bright future, and will be the new bitcoin" lol.

Doesn't anyone have any original ideas?

Yes, there are a tiny fraction of alt-coins that have real innovative features.
But sadly, 99% of them are just clones.

I don't think we need this many alt-currencies,but what can we do to stop new alt-currencies? there are people who like them and make profit with them and as long as there are people playing new alt-currencies will keep rising and rising.

The only people who tend to make any real money out of these new alts are the people who make them, if even them. Pump and dump crap.

My favourite one is "my crapcoin has a great community and dev team behind it", which literally means nothing. And when you question them what's so good about their coin or tell them everybody says this they throw a shitfit and accuse you of being a troll haha.

Most don't have anything innovative, but there are some that at least try something different, but when people claim their coin to be innovative it's usually just because they tweaked the algorithm slightly or whatever, thus not really being innovate, but maybe so in a world full of crapcoin clones that don't bother changing anything.

I think there should be this many altcoins since very many people didnt get into the bitcoin game early, Its a great to start of investments, I am saving Protoshares and DOGE, and a Few dimecoins to see how much they are worth i the future so I can save for a college. But I will be greatly dissapointed if that happened.

So, Yes,IMO there hsould be that many.  Grin

But, as others have said, a lot of these coins are 'pump and dump', meaning they're not good for storing money. They won't last forever.
