Compared to bitcoin, altcoins are having less advantage in my opinion too. But some people are claiming that they are making huge profits than what they are saving in bitcoins. but no one share how they identify that particular coin. Altcoins are having advantages but not in the same level of what we can enjoy from bitcoins.

At least, so far, even if it is for short or long term profit, it is still an impact. I know over time a lot of things will be changing for the better and that implies more to altcoins with very good and usable product and not just those with empty promises. So far, the altcoin space is purely speculative, or will I say the crypto space in all, and this makes it more like a pump and dump environment, so for now, I would say profit is the only advantage, but as time goes on when we start seeing real life usage, then we can start talking about the other usable advantages.

The topic is way too broad. There are thousands of altcoins to be compared to bitcoin. Every altcoin provides a specific service or usage. One is different and can be the same as well. It depends on the coin you were referring to. In terms of price, bitcoin will still be the KING while others will just ride along with it. Technically, altcoins offer more utility than bitcoin.  With bitcoin's primary purpose being a digital cash (which was intended for payments), altcoins have more features.

Altcoins can be used as payments, a utility token to avail products and services, and could be a platform for other altcoins & tokens too. It can serve a multitude of service, feature and purpose. It is not solely tied for digital payments and store of value like bitcoin.

And to date, there are altcoins that are faster to confirm and can accommodate more transactions per block than bitcoin can.

Actually Bitcoin is riskier than a lot of alts which are backed by real business and value creation.
The future of Bitcoin is very uncertain. I still agree that most alts are useless though.

Altcoin are a riskier investment but potentially much more profitable (i you find the right ones and with an favourable overall market). The problem is there are too many of them, investors are too divided (and many are useless except for speculation).

On the other hand at the technology level some surpass BTC in many domains (if we look only transfer speeds and costs, BTC is obsolete)
For the moment it's mainly speculation side that's at play, I have the feeling that projects are taking second place

Well, from my experience and what I have gained from crypto, I would say no matter what the move of crypto, I would always prefer altcoins to bitcoin going by the fact that one tend to make more profits either from daily trading or long term investment from altcoins than bitcoin
