I bought bitcoins a few days ago, and  I sent them to the wallet. the wallet is not synchronized yet!
is it because of this, I do not see the coins?

Yes, you should wait for wallet synchronization and you will see real balance then. Also you can check your transaction on blockchain.

The bitcoin blockchain is getting more massive evert day. The last time I checked it was appriaching 10GB, which is an unrealistic size. I heard about bitcoin blockchains becoing corrupt during download. The only way to fix it is to delete the corrupted download and start again.

It's OK if you have the latest super fast fiber connection, but on anything else it's going to take ages to download. I heard there is a new wallet called multibit or something that does not need to download the blockchain. It stores it online instead. That should be much faster to syncronize.
