I'd like to get together enough Bitcoiners to donate 10 BTC per month for the next 12 months. We select a different charity each month and make 2014 the year of bitcoin. I am ready to give 10 BTC for MAPS (maps.org) in January and a friend is ready to go in February. I think this can attract significant positive press attention for Bitcoin. Let's do this.

That's a pretty substantial donation. ~10,000 ?

Please, take your cyber begging elsewhere.  This is a place to people discuss subjects related to the Bitcoin software, not a free venue for Internet panhandling.

Thank you.

I think most people are sceptical of donating to charities on here and quite rightly. I'd only suggest donating BTC if the charity has an official donating address. Setting a goal of 10BTC is also a lot. Why do you need to set any goals and just see what you can get instead?

Get established charities to accept bitcoin. Watch as people open their hearts and pockets. It's not much of an innovation if we are sending a third party BTC to be converted to cash to be sent to a charity... we can do that ourselves.

Augusto, I don't find this post relevant. Organizing donations is a project like any other, and probably more helpful than most other stuff here.

What project are you talking about? There is no project. There is a random forum participant asking for donations without present any credentials whatsoever. This is not an organized charity, this is cyber begging.

Sorry for not being clear. I am not asking for donations at all. I am suggesting people select charities and donate to them directly themselves. I have nothing to do with it other than I am happy to donate as well. My idea is just that we make it a point as a community to achieve a monthly donation target.

I am going to be donating 10 bitcoins in January and I have a friend who will donate 10 in February. Bitcoiners are very generous from what I know and if we continue this donation trend we can make a positive impact and get good press attention from it as well. Normally I donate anonymously but I think being public about this can be good for bitcoin.

The ones who can afford to throw away 10 BTC might be generous; the rest not so much. But I commend you for trying to do some good whilst promoting BTC.

Ok that's a solid point then, next time be more clearly, also show me where you donate to, I might also do that, not 10 btc but 1-2 I may be able to afford.

IMO why don't you donate in something that can actually make bitcoin known around the world, for ex. you can actually join in the current ATM machine installation their looking for contributors and investors so they can lunch in India and other African countries, as well i have made contact with some vendor manufactures and they have made a solution and put in a bitcoin payment method in the machine for me, you can actually order this and bring it to the public, the only idea i have is selling the machine and making profit from it as well as spread the love for bitcoin, i and you we different if i have up to 10btc to give out as donation i will do more than just donating by implementing devices that can actually be seen, and this can create attraction and more people who don't know bitcoin yet will be fascinated  to own and use bitcoins.
