Some of those site may not appear dodgy. And you can get viruses that are from seemingly legit sites or sources.

My preference is for Kaspersky or F-Secure because they don't seem too memory or processor intensive. They both consistently perform well in customer views and the top consumer mags.

I don't use av normally but whenever I do,  I use Comodo Internet security ( comes with anti-virus, firewall, sandbox, Comodo browser) or kaspersky pure and malwarebyets anti malware.

there is no such thing as "the best antivirus" for example of course ESET nod is better then Avira but then again Avira is free and you have to pay for ESET (unless you're a pirate ) and ESET takes more of your RAM and processing power when Avira is so easy on your GPU

There are so many details on different antiviruses that every individual would probably have a different "best" for himself
