is there any good summary (list) of forks (altcoins) and the fast comparison of how much they derive from the BTC blockchain for easy orientation?

Altcoins aren't forks of bitcoin. "Fork" has very particular meaning in open source development.

ok, so when i read Litecoin is a fork of Bitcoin, it does not mean, that it started as a orphan block out ot BTC chain?

it is a different meaning for "fork"?

There is a Bitcoin source fork and a blockchain fork, "fork" usually means the latter as far as I know it. Litecoin didn't start out as an orphan block from the BTC chain, it has its own genesis block and premined coins.

Yes this is confusing.

Most alt coins are source code forks, a few are written from scratch.

Most (all?) alt coins are not blockchain forks.

I also would like to know if there are any alt coins that are blockchain forks as this came up in another thread I was reading.

Just for accuracy....

Litecoin didn't have premined coins (apart from one single block in addition to the genesis block).

From the Litecoin entry at the bitcoin wiki:

Technically, altcoins are forks of bitcoin, but can you call changing a few lines a fork? Let's call them patches.

Are all altcoins based on bitcoin source code then?
