Difficulty has increased

But it's rise is not smooth.  Rather it's like a pair of jagged teeth.  Why is the curve not smooth?
It's not like 50000 machines simultaneously turned on the same time

so why was it 1000 times easier to get a block yesterday, then it is now?  (if it is, i'm asking u)
