Best android wallets

My only access to internet where I live is with my tablet, through my phone carrier, I was currently just wondering is it safe to download wallets via google play, and if so what should I use as one of my wallets is through an app at the moment, any help is appreciated, I hope this is the correct thread?

I assume that you are using an Android device. I would recommend you Samourai wallet. The developers are really concerned about the security and the privacy. There are many useful features such as coin control which will help you to preserve your anonymity. It is worth to mention that Samourai allows you to use both nested and native SegWit addresses as receiving ones.

If you are looking for a Lightning Network wallet then Eclair seems to be the only reasonable choice for now. Zap LN wallet is available only for iOS, unfortunately.

I never experienced to use Samourai wallet, but the features and security concerned is interesting.

Anyway, I want to share the best wallet for me, which is based on my own experienced.

Coinomi wallet is one of the best wallet that uses for a long time and until now I didn't experience any problem yet and they also support segwit addresses the only bad side of this wallet is the synchronizing takes a longer time to finish.

The other wallet is Electrum for android, which is support segwit address never had a problem using this wallet so I suggest that you try this wallet because it's a well-known wallet.

If you check the developer, download a well-designed wallet, and protect your phone against any malicious software, it will be safe.
I do not care too much about the privacy of my phone, so I did not download any wallet at all, but a lot of positive reviews for Samourai wallet.
I suspect this property is the main reason for choosing this wallet "Stealth Mode & Remote Commands" try it.
However, you must specify the type of currency"Bitcoin or alt", the reason for use, and the level of privacy before downloading any wallet

If you do not need to use Bitcoin frequently if your initial idea is just to receive, buy and save I would recommend a paperwallet[1] as the primary device. A tablet is something insanely insecure and fragile. There is a great chance someone else will steal you or it will simply break.

For Ethereum tokens, MEW[2] is the best option, saving the seed in a paper wallet.

Android wallets have as main function to be something practical to use in the day to day. If you still need one, I would recommend Eclair[2] and Coinomi[3].

Yes, I also recommend you to use the Samourai wallet because they provided the wallet bitcoiners need and they follow the step of bitcoin core. However, I will advice you to set the trusted node and with the wallet been ok, you still need to avoid user error though.

I am kind of suprised noone has mentioned Mycelium (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mycelium.wallet) yet.

Mycelium was the best android wallet for quite some time.
Unfortunately they have decided to support some shady russian ICO and to develop a bcash module instead of integrating segwit.
But it still works flawlessly for me (even tho some users report they have connection issues with mycelium). Has a nice UI too.

Other options would be electrum for android and coinomi.

"Coinbase" is not a wallet. It is an exchange which provides a wallet-kind of service.
You should choose a wallet where (only) YOU have control of the private keys. This is not the case with a coinbase web wallet.

Coinbase is effectively in charge of your bitcoins. They just give you a 'balance' in their database which allows you to withdraw this amount of BTC later on.
You don't own any bitcoin if you don't own the private key.


If you want to store bigger amounts and don't have access to a PC, the ledger nano s would be the most secure option.
You can use this hardware wallet with your mobile. The key generation and transaction signing is done on the device itself. This secures you against malware/theft.

If you don't want to buy a hardware wallet, go for a wallet on your mobile. It is way more secure than using an online wallet.

new update support segwit & legacy address, it's also a multicoin/token wallet, so it's kinda "one wallet for all your needs".

This wallet is suits for both android and desktop. The transaction fee is also reasonable in this wallet. Many bitcoin users support this wallet only. The mobile version of electrum does not support 2FA. This would be senseless.
Using 2FA on the same device is not '2-factor'. If your device is compromised, your wallet AND your 2FA are compromised.

The transaction fee is also reasonable in this wallet.

The transaction fee is completely independent from the wallet.
Some wallets do estimate fees differently. But most wallets do allow you to set your own fee.

The amount of fess you need to pay to get confirmed within X blocks does depend on the amount of transactions waiting to get confirmed.
Wallets do have no influence on this fee.

Honestly, as much as I like Electrum (the desktop version anyway), I can't really recommend the Android version. I find on my device (Samsung Galaxy S5 with latest LineageOS), that it just constantly crashes... and after the latest update, refuses to even open (after clearing cache+data, and even going as far as uninstalling/reinstalling) and just insta-crashes

I think it's a great wallet but these days it's hard to recommend due to the lack of Segwit and that ICO crap isn't too impressive either. Their attempts to monetise it have been unappetising.

The only wallet really keeping up with all the developments is Samourai, though the UI is a bit blank for my tastes.

Agree, Mycelium used to be the absolute #1 top wallet for Android.

Unfortunately they chose to join the dark side.

Haven't used mycelium guys, so far I'm trying to use coinomi and I like it that way.

Base on the suggestions of the crowd here are the top best android wallets.

I'm still in exploration with coinomi so I can't give an opinion more than with it's technicality though honestly, I like it's UI.
