Lol, that's pretty humorous! I would still prefer to get paid in cash though. Right now, BTC are just a "novelty" side-project for me right now. I'm not confident enough to fully invest my time and money into it.

This seems like a really good way for them to move a lot of the bitcoins that they are taking in an converting to fiat everyday.

exactly! It also helps to stabilize the market price of BTC and distribute BTC wealth among a greater number of people.

I work as a freelance, and I've asked several of my clients to pay me in BTC, but all said they couldn't!
I'll try again in 6 months.

This is great. Closing the loop is key long-term...

I agree with OP - ask your employer to implement this and pay some portion of your wages in bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the first monetary system to credibly offer perfect information to all economic participants.

That's pretty innovative of bitpay... +1 for them

Would be nice to see coinbase offer the same thing down the road.

For me (and I think most people) bitcoin is too volatile right now to receive ALL of my salary in bitcoin but I certainly wouldn't mind receiving a percentage of my paycheck in bitcoin.  Or at the very least I wouldn't mind trying it for a few paychecks with the option to opt at and go back to fiat at any point.  I think  about some of the dips that have happened in bitcoin in the past and if my whole salary was paid in bitcoin those dips certianly could have resulted in me no longer having a place to live or able to put food on the table.

Still a great thing to see though and for anyone who has low expenses who is living in a situation with no rent (ie living with family) then certainly it sounds like a tempting thing to try out.

If anyone does something like this, please share your story!

Even if you got paid during a dip your net USD amount would be equal and you could cover your bills as if the price were constant. You would have gained equity when the market price rebounded if you saved some.

Not if you had to cash those BTC deeper in the dip to pay your bills while you were waiting.  Tongue I see your point though. Best case I suppose: cash out what you'll need and keep a buffer that you supplement in incremental sales of BTC during times of recovery or profit above price when you were paid.

Love this idea! Great job BitPay. I know I'll be bringing this to my employers attention!

If you got paid in BTC, couldn't you solve the volatility problem by buying some options on ICBIT or some other derivatives provider?  That would at least set a floor for the BTC price .  Granted, you would miss out on the upside, but you could at least price yourself accordingly, right?
