My Doctor has known for a few years that I am into bitcoin and since he has seen it on the news, etc he brought it up at my appointment last month. I told him he should start taking bitcoin. He thought about it and I educated him on the easiest ways, etc and this month, I paid my co-payment with bitcoin. My Doc loved it, i set him up on coinbase (since I think coinbase is the easiest for newbies) and showed him how he can either keep his coins in his account or have them automatically converted to dollars and transferred into his bank account.

On my next visit, I told him Ill bring him a sign saying "Bitcoins accepted here" with a little info on how where to find more info about it. He thought it was awesome how it went from my cell phone right into his account within seconds. With the added benefit of it costing nothing to take the coins. If you have it set up properly with coinbase, they wont charge you the 1 percent fee for the first million dollars.

The more people/vendors/businesses/doctors know about bitcoins the better off we will all be. While I tend to keep most of my coins, I thought it was a worthwhile investment to get my doctors office excited about spreading the word about bitcoin...

I also told him how volatile bitcoin is, so if you want to keep it as investment, prepare for the big swings, but if you want to use it as a payment system, just have coinbase immediately put it into his bank account. By the time I left, bitcoin had risen and he was up 5 bucks by the time I left, my payment was 100 bucks and it was now worth 105, but I told him it could easily have been the opposite, lol..

Also, it was great that I was able to pay with bitcoin since I had forgot to bring cash/debit card so It was my only option.. It was a total win/win situation...

Next time see if he’ll give you a discount and let you pay for the whole thing, not just the co-pay. ;-)

That’ll start to get fun.

I think this is great but the real problem with it of course is most doctors in the US, or anywhere really, have no idea what something costs.  Next time you're in for a visit, ask, hey, what does this office visit cost?  Or, what does this test cost?  95%+ of doctors will have absolutely no clue.

But great job to get him to put up the sign!

Funny you should mention that, Starting next month, I will have to pay the whole thing, and ill just keep paying with bitcoins.  Remember, word of mouth is the best form of advertisement, so we all should be looking for opportunities like this.. It can only help bitcoin...
