After first hearing about this card from a scrypt mining blog stating power usage was 300-350w with a kh/s rate of 800-+950 I began searching the web for good deals to purchase 2 cards. Having already purchased a brand new coolmaster 1000w (80 plus gold certified) power supply a few months ago that needed to be put to use I'd rather not have to upgrade since it hasn't even accumulated 4 weeks of run time under vary low load (1x saphire 6970) for about 8-12 hours a day.

Are these estimates both power usage and kh/s ratings accurate?

If memory serves correctly both 290 and 290x have a manufacturer stated requirement of 600-650w. Although that can't be right because so many people are running 2-4 cards on one psu.

So basically what I want to know is if 2 R9 290x's or 290's can run on a 1000w system.

Current System -

Rosewill Thor case
MSI Z77A-G45 Motherboard -2 double spaced pci-e slots and 1 single spaced
Intel I3 dual core processor 2100 serries
CoolMaster 1000w modular PSU
Western Digital 2TB hard drive with 64mb cache
1x Sapphire 6970 - @ 275-325 kh/s (hoping for 4-5x current min kh/s)

Originally built as a gaming/personal pc/part time mining type system so I spent more on things that wouldn't necessarily be needed for mining.

No problem. I have been running a dual 290x system for a few weeks now on a 1000 watt PSU.

Those 290x cards are not pulling more then maybe 350 watts each, probably less. I have not yet run that system on a meter so I cant say for sure.

I run about 10 x 290s and when I put them on a meter they only show about 300w each, your power supply is just fine for 2.

I have been able to get 2 290's running on 1000w PSU.  Adding a third 290 at anything greater than I=15 causes my 1000w PSU to click and pop.

I am buying a 1250w PSU to get the third 290 running.

I run 2x R9 290's on a 750W PSU stable at 920kh/s each.
Other rig is 3x R9 290's with a 1200W PSU.

I'm running 3 290s on an 850W Corsair. (single 12V rail ftw)

Undervolted and underclocked they pull less than 200W doing 800 kh. They'll do 875 if you don't mind them pulling another 75W as well. Not really worth it from an efficiency point of view imo.

Treggar - any chance you want to post a conf and a tip address?

my cgminer doesn't parse confs very well, even ones it creates it says there are JSON errors in them so I just call a script to start it up:

./cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://<pool stratum addr:port> -u <worker> -p <worker passwd> --gpu-engine 1050 --thread-concurrency 32765 --gpu-powertune 20 --gpu-fan 85 -I 20 --gpu-memclock 1450 --no-submit-stale -s 1

These cards are slotted into the board itself, on the 2 card rig they have some space thus lower temps, on the 3 board rig they are mashed in together with barely 0.5mm between them for the fan to circulate the air.  I run the card with the monitor plugged in at a slightly lower clock engine due to it also feeding the screen and it got too hot running it at 1050 like the other two.

Tips not necessary, happy to help.  Ignore scammer feedback left for me, guy's a douche - claims I scammed him out of 7 cents worth of some shitcoin.

What setting you using to achieve that, or more specifically, how much did you undervolt and what's your core / mem speed
