Not sure if anyone watches The Blacklist, but laundering money through Ripple and into BitCoin was mentioned on last night's episode.

How should that even be possible?

Ripple gateways (just like Bitcoin exchanges) probably will have to, Ripple itself is just a piece of software.
https://www.coinlend.org <-- automated lending at various exchanges.
https://www.bitfinex.com <-- Trade BTC for other currencies and vice versa.
