MISSION OBJECTIVE
Ensure cool and efficient mining rig operation with no additional fans or powered sources of ventilation.

ENVIRONMENT
The city I happen to live in has a fairly low winter average temperature. Average daily temperatures fluctuate between 2°C during the day, and -15°C at night (but this last week we've reached -35°C). I wanted to take advantage of this natural weather behaviour and build a mining rig that could leverage the cold outdoors to cool it's naturally hot GPUs.

REQUIREMENTS
I really didn't want to plug additional fans into my motherboard, nor did I want a huge table fan to cramp my rig's style.

SOLUTION
Place rig in proximity of a slightly open window in my office.

RESULTS
Before: 81°C  avg GPU temp
Next to window: 65°C avg GPU temp

INGREDIENTS
one mobo
one CPU
8gb of RAM
three R9 280x
one 1200w PSU
+ one slightly open window

HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR COOL ?

Impressive. I have been thinking about this same idea, for example now it's -15c here. I'm currently testing how cold my sauna gets with an open window. Although I don't have a mining rig, I'm just mining with my home pc.

I'm thinking if I ever build a mining rig I might put the rig in the sauna  Grin I could run the wires through balcony, and use the electric plugs I have in the sauna room for plugging in.
Would be annoying to move the stuff though, since I use the sauna for the original purpose every now and then  Grin

Oh nice, a sauna could be a good option to setup a rig or two or three Smiley
Though if you do use it from time to time it wouldn't be so practical.
