Have you tried different OS' to compare the hash rates achieved?
If so, which has given you the best performance, also which application was used?

I use MacOS and all I can say is that I'm satisfied with it. Would using linux or Windows make a difference ?

I'm using Windows and cgminer for mining.
I think that the difference does the device driver. OS should not make a difference

I'm no expert but I can't imagine why it would.
