We all know that in order for bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies to be adopted, the current ecosystem has to be simpler than what it is today. I read in a news that certain developers are creating apps for the purpose of "technical improvement", but I find it sort of a "backward" improvement when an email-based app is being proposed as a solution just for cryptos to be more adoptable. This more like brings out questions rather than answers IMO. What happens to anonymity if these apps are ever developed? Your thoughts?

Isn't that similar to what 21 Inc pivoted to? Earning BTC from email or something along those lines?

I haven't used it myself, but I think they paid big money for the earn.com domain and are running it from there. I don't know if it's going well for them or not though. Maybe someone else here has some experience with the system or app or whatever it is and can let us know how it's doing.

it's a great idea and byteball can already do this - https://medium.com/byteball/sending-cryptocurrency-to-email-5c9bce22b8a9

everyone has an email address. you don't need to verify anything. this means that right now anyone with an email address anywhere can be inducted into crypto by sending straight from a byteball wallet.

It seems here are only positive comments regarding this topic.

Email (or better: efail) is a broken protocol. It is 50+ years old and has been built without any security in mind.
It was one of the first 'applications' on the internet. And till now there is no proper authorization/authentication.
Email can be spoofed, intercepted, read and modified by anyone.

While i do agree with the general idea of increasing adoption through a kind of 'email 2.0' protocol which does not contain a massive amount of security holes.
It is unfortunately not possible yet, simpy since such a protocol doesn't exist yet.

Read the medium link and I find it not so appealing  because of the stated double fees (one for using the system if the sender has to create a temporary mail add for the receiver, and another for the "sweeping". Add to this the caution that only small transactions are encouraged.

I would still explore this though. Thank you

i don't see why we need anything like that at all. and i don't really understand why you say things are complicated. as an end user you just have to download a wallet, that is all! the rest is just pointing and scanning, as simple as that.
for example you go to a shop to make a purchase the cashier will show you a QR code which you scan with your phone and click a button on your screen,.... and you are done!

as for Email and things like what other user said about Byteball and what they did, it is just an application built on top of already existing infrastructure which is doing something interesting. it is really pretty simple. you can build it on top of any coin that you want even if they don't use seeds. it is a very simple code.
but the question is whether there is a need for something like that?

Coins.ph here in the Philippines also does that, we can send BTC and cash just the email of the receiver. Not only emails but phone numbers too- I think it is more adoptable than ever before, most people don't want to see random letters and number all along but in simpler forms, most of those guys are old people.

The solution is incredibly easy, anyone could do it. Just code a website which allows people to transfer Bitcoins within their internal system. It doesn't matter if the person is registered or not. The main thing about the system is that the person's identity must be validated. Obviously, this could potentially compromise the person's privacy.

It can't be easily implemented into Bitcoin's protocol. Changetip works similarly to the method that I've described though its not really viable.

And it pivoted from that to ....nothing

I'm still waiting for my fridge and my lighting bulb that is going to mine BTC and pay the electric bill
Oh...and still waiting for the toaster also

We all know that in order for bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies to be adopted, the current ecosystem has to be simpler than what it is today.

Simple in what? What can be simpler that having a wallet and sending and receiving coins?

Whenever people get lazy and choose the easy way they also abandon security, and coins that are not protected or are stored on a 3rd party app or wallet are coins creaming to be lost.

what email based app? Please if you could elaborate for us to understand, as I haven't heard about it bitcoin. Your point about the general adoption is well addressed, that is hardly missed.

Coinjolt if i recall correctly is the company mentioned by the news that I quoted.

Having the wallet already to send and receive coins is already the tail end. It is the front end where the common people are having trouble and where the fear is. And this is where they (ICO's) are trying to exploit by promoting a "common and easy" way to get to the tail end.

To be honest, I think we should work on the actual field to build awareness about Bitcoin and blockchain. Instead of relying on the email, we can always explain this new payment system to the people around us and it will mainly include our friends and family members and they will always have a soft corner for you and thus they will hear what you are trying to say which is not the case in sending emails.

As it was already mentioned in the topic, there's no need to use email if you want to transfer bitcoin easily... As long as there are apps in the smartphones where you can reach the others who has the same app installed, there's no need to use email to have the connection (apps like messenger, viber, etc..). Also as long as there are bitcoin wallet apps available, they will solve this issue as well. These apps will make the necessary connection with using the smartphone's contact list, so you don't have to do anything but select one of your contact if you want to send a transaction.

Emails could be very good option for promoting bitcoin because in today’s world like everyone is using internet for their daily basis activities and if crypto currencies are being promoted through emails then I guess this could improve the current status of crypto currencies and more and more people come to know about the bitcoin Nd thus awareness will be created among people because in the end every one will have to use bitcoin because in the future bitcoin will be the central currency world wide.

Bitcoin works properly on its framework and I think is not so useful implement email service.
Furthermore you can attach qr code or btc address if you want deal with btc.
The future is implement btc service on smartphones in my opinion.

you should keep in mind that bitcoin is just a protocol with a certain set of rules. anything else like what OP has in mind is just things you can build on top of that protocol using the software that you code. for example the HD wallets and Seed words aren't changing the protocol. it is just someone who build something on top of bitcoin.
you think some "email-based app" is required for making bitcoin more adotable then start developing one. or if you cant then try explaining your idea better so that a developer can do it for you.

Emails for the purpose of promotion is ok with me. But using them for sending or receiving bitcoins and alts is another thing that needs caution because of the risks involved if ever this happens.
