It seems to be my existential dilemma here with joining some of the multi-alto mining pools, on one hand it's easy to mine the days most profitable alto and sell it for BTC or LTC on a trading site for instant £££, but then again I have no idea which one is likely to take off in the future and which ones will fade away. I don't want to be like the first ever guy to buy something with bitcoin, a pizza for 10,000 BTC!

Just wondering if people here are stockpiling these altocoins, or trading them for BTC/LTC that are easier to sell at the moment for paper money.

I might take up a 50/50 approach soon, so far I've been converting to BTC/LTC daily and selling at bitbargain.

Stockpile or sell?

Both. Knowing when to hold and when to fold is the nature of the game.

That's the difference between being a bag holder and a weak hand.

I can agree with Nullu, is depend on a few factors: your trading strategy, knowledge base on the coins developments, and the "inner circle" of those who possess the power to control the price.

Essential, going the long is always the easiest.  Set it, and forget it.  Interesting enough, I just so happened to write an article on the stability/usability for altcoins.  Feel free to check out the below link.

Depends on coin - if I see it being pumped beyond reason I sell most of them, otherwise I stockpile/sell 50%. Then I buy next gpu [so far upgraded my hw from 100 kh/s to 890 kh/s Cheesy] and after doing so I farm them again to have between 0.01-0.001% of total supply of coin. Then I let them lay there for better times. Some[or even most] will die, some will survive, some of them will go to the moon in next bubble[I'm looking at you quark] Smiley

Heh snap, except I went for a 7990 as a mate had one and didn't realize how good they are for mining so sold me it for a goood price Smiley

I think Ima keep any of the top 20 coins in terms of current $$$ value and sell the rest. I need to come up with some rules and work out how much time I can put into research ...

^ agree with that!

The more I reflect on this the more I'm up for stockpiling ... these virtual currencies are so new I think in general the only way is up for the markets as more people worldwide come online and more people get technology that can use them.

I don't know about UFOcoin. It's being added to a new Sci-Fi exchange soon. I'm keeping on to mine.

Sometime sell, sometime keep .... but if my total supply of the coin is small (like less than $20 worth of coins), I usually just keep it unless the coin is clearly going down the drain, straight to the death.

Cachecoin DEAD

Well, not really (it was near death at one time, but now is reviving, dev is active and the coin is getting attention again) .... currently you can sell it for 0.2 BTC/1000 CACH ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=400389.msg4502007#msg4502007 ), or maybe keep it and wait for even better prices Smiley

But dead? No. Keep watching the coin, depending on how much do you have you may find that the coin is actually quite valuable Smiley

Also, UFOcoin is also not dead, though it is far from the top when considering attractivity of the coin.

Big brother is not watching you anymore. Big brother is telling you how to live.

Stock: BTC
restocking: LTC, WDC

Everything else is a mix of stocking/dumping depending on what I feel is right based on what info I have on hand.

Tips? Reply/PM or send coins to:

Grain is going up in price...
Kitteh is too. People are just stockpiling for the relaunch...should be within the next couple of days to the week.
Nyan has a pretty good following...

So I'm not sure what you mean.
