Please do your math, I want the best bang for my buck.

About PSUs I'll be getting 2x Seasonic MII 850W @ $142 each. (2x 500 if going for R9 270)

Please dont tell me about other GPU brands, those are the only ones in stock here where I live in Asia.

Also, consider if either card gets more hashes if overclocked thus more economic, and not to forget I have only 1700w combined.

If you state a reason for your vote, that would be appreciated too.  Smiley

Please keep in my not just the hashes, but also the resale value.

Edit: 280x wins, ordering. Thanks everyone for voting.
Feel free to vote still, poll is open

the sapphire r9 270 Boost OC just came in stock too @ $246 each

Comment why if you think 270 is better.

P.S: The mobo I ordered has 5 slots

Most of the boards with 5 or more slots are out of stock here all the time, so it is not possible for me to build 5 rigs (270 based) out of thin air. Also, the risers will have to be imported.

The above situation is to be kept in mind too.

sapphire r9 290 and xfx 280x are available most of the time.

Have you considered power consumption? 270s don't consume near as much.

Have you considered power consumption? 270s don't consume near as much.

I know I can run 5x 270 on 2x 500w and save me $140 for not buying those 2x 850w.

BUT, only thing stopping me is 5 slots mobo are not available here all the time.
Still, if going 270 way is too cheap, I can take the risk, but I hate the idea of maintaing several rigs.

Not to mention daily power consumption. Is it enough to compensate for the loss hash power? Make sure you consider your sail operating costs, not just the savings from the initial investment. Not sure where you are, but newegg has mobos in stock that can support 5 cards.

You are risking your life savings on an endeavor you will most likely lose money on. Brilliant!

Don't think so, most probably middlecoin will return me the ROI in max 3 months.
Plus, 75% resale value of cards till atleast 6 months.

One thing you're forgetting is that you're going to have a hard time getting 75% resale value when everyone is going to be dumping their cards.

Also, coin difficulties change and prices fluctuate.

Middlecoin is your worst option, only for the lazy and simple minded. You might get lucky and pick the right coin to mine, but the odds are against you. Factor in power costs and your dream world comes crumbling down.

Investing in BTC with that money is a much better option.

I'm not sure who started the rumor that it's impossible to see ROI with GPU rigs... OP I'm glad you know how to do the numbers. Risky, yeah, but so is the entire game.

Here' hoping OP mixes his portfolio, taking into account difficulty level; overall profitability of coins. If played right, ROI can be realized.

Why so harsh? How can you expect for anyone to accept anything you say when it cones out like that?

Please do your math, Im going to invest all my life savings, so I want the best bang for my buck.

because its your life savings, control your costs and really do your research well.  of the 3 options you posted, 2 of the video cards have inflated in price by 100s of dollars.  this pushes your break-even back by months.  be careful you do not overpay for hardware, because that will determine how fast you pay off your investment.

You are risking your life savings on an endeavor you will most likely lose money on. Brilliant!

that's why the recommendation and the discussion is based on ROI.  ROI doesn't have to include the resale value of your hardware.

in <120 days you can make the hardware pay for itself.  any amount of money after that, including resale of hardware, is pure profit.
