Hi,
I recently received some of the main components for my miner.
Since i decided to install 5 gpu on 1 motherboard, i buyed 4 powered risers from ebay, precisely this type:

http://www.ebay.it/itm/191008481183?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

But, readings discussions in the forum ( i can now find only this, but there were others aswell) i got scared  that, despite i buyed from uk, i got the famigerate chinese "yellow cable" riser, and so i will need to cut the cables that sent energy to the mob to avoid dangerous long-term disfuntions, due to the "electricity drainage" that can occur from the riser to the mob.

Am i right? Have i to do this operation? How can i possibly do it?

Anybody else using this risers?

not sure i completely understand your q, but i use those risers from ebay for rigs with 4 cards i use the molex power connector for each card, and there are no problems.  my systems go for weeks without crashing or problems.

i've never had to modify those ebay risers to use for mining.  hope that hepls.

also it doesn't matter where you buy; a UK seller on ebay is just reselling what he bought from china.  pretty much everything is made in china now.

I have the same risers.  They never worked for me though.... I get corrupted video from the card attached to the screen, the card in the 2nd x16 slot is recognized but won't mine, and the 3rd x16 and x1 slot aren't recognized at all with these risers in use.

Maybe during some pool downtime I'll shut it all off and try the A1-B17 short trick with the risers in.

I have the same risers. I had a lot of headache when I started using them: cards not being recognized, etc...
Turns out they were faulty, and my seller (UK based) exchanged them.

Yes, cut the 12v lines to the motherboard. There are 5 of them, and if your risers are like mine there is only actually one sending 12v back to the motherboard. That's a stupid design flaw, which ends up overloading the single wire. End result = burnt 12v pin in PCI-e slot. You shouldn't run into any issues if all of your risers are powered, though.
