Thinking about buying 4 of them.

$586 for 4x with shipping(rebate only works on 1 per address)

~2.8khs/$

If you did extra work to get rebate on 4x it would be $496 for 4

3.2khs/$

Best I think you can get atm?

Could probably have a 1600khs rig for ~700-900

Is that worth it?

Might be worth it to the average or beginner, but probably not for someone who does this as a living. I generally don't stray far from the 7950/280X realm as I can still get them in bulk for MSRP. It's not that the value isn't there, I just have to deal with that many more rigs to get the same hashrate and also unloading the items when the time comes is more of a hassle if you have older gen cards and more of them. If this is your first rig, that's not a bad starting point.

the funny thing is, not long ago 7950's were $180. I have one in my gaming desktop. Didn't buy it for mining and had no clue about mining. I check newegg and they are like $500 now......... wtf. Litecoin made gfx card price go up so high. Well, for AMD cards that is. It would just be a side rig as a hobby. I have a job and get my 4 0hrs with decent pay as IT analyst. I was thinking to rent out $20-25 a day, wont take long at all to get money back, then rest is profit.

I used them. The 7850 is awesome go for it! I used twin fan 2Gb models and they were always cool and quiet.

Two are as powerful as a 7970 (2x1024 Stream processors) but it's only 2x 6-pin (2x75W) so are way lower power consumption!

Only the 7990 2nd Ed, (2x 8Pin) can touch them on power efficiency.

Would you mind sharing where you are getting them from?

That's not how you measure a card's power efficiency.  You calculate the delta between idle and load states using a kill-a-watt and divide the hashrate by that delta (assuming the idles states of all cards will be more or less within 5 watts).

The higher end cards are usually more efficient since they have one less PCB to power and less memory.

Undervolting and ambient temps would play a bigger factor than anything else.

You might as well buy a miner from China for that money, and get 38ghs

Two completely different mining topics.  I have 2 of those cubes and also just started building a rig.  I snagged a 7970 and R9 270 so far, along with all the other needed parts Smiley  Should be here Monday.

What mobo and psu were you planning on running?  If the cards are $586, your looking closer to the $900 mark to get everything else.

Link please? I can't find this. And this is a no-brainer to buy. You couldn't ignore it.

I have 2x Asus 7850 1Gb versions "--thread-concurrency 5120 -I 14 -w 256 --gpu-engine 795 --gpu-memclock 1200" script @ 540 Kh/s, max temp 71c

Purchased these for a friends PC build who then changed his mind, so I put these in my everyday PC that runs 24/7 anyway. They work great for what they are. I'm not pushing them to hard as I need to be able to use the machine, @ -I 14 there is no impact to daily use, some live video streams don't run. I did get these up to 600 Kh/s without to much trouble, but the machine is then unusable for anything else.
4 of these would make a decent miner for the money, with relatively low power usage with some tweaking.
