ebay removed all my listings for devcoin, the longest running cryptocurrency next to bitcoin if you've never heard of that one .

This is what they sent me :

Please know that per our recent policy update, Virtual currency (i.e. Bitcoin and Litecoin), whether digitally or physically delivered cannot be listed in Auction-style or Buy-It-Now listing formats. eBay is opening a Virtual Currency category to allow the sale of virtual currency in Classified Ads format on February 10, 2014. We request that you do not list these items until that date.

i think thats good news for a lot of people who have had there ebay susspended for selling it !

That's the next change PayPal/eBay must make:
Accept block chain as proof of transfer to stop these kind of scams.

talking of scams can anyone explain this ? can the blockchain be manipulated as seems to have happened here.

Dear depo711,

thats really weird , i just done a search of the blockchain again and this time it comes up like this . your coins showed on the last search but not this time its been deleted.

i dont know how this can be but i am going to do some investigating to find out how this is at all possible. jason t

"Classified Ads format" -  sounds like a lot of verifications/limitations/additional_problems

blockchain itself is fine but:

they give a shit on the blockchain. you sell a virtual good, then you are not protected from paypal. simple as that  Lips sealed

Another means of taking virtual currency to the masses. I'm enjoying seeing the different channels unfold that take alt-coins out there to people. Of course, the higher you climb the harder you fall, but it could be good for the alt-coin prices if the demand goes up. Transactions being irreversible might be a problem unless PayPal is still used for protection.

What eBay has to do is set up escrow accounts for every currency and process them automatically during the process of the auction. After buyer pays, they instantly get the coins. Their card is automatically charged. If there are any disputes, eBay and PayPal takes care of it not you. That has always been the simplest solution. I don't know why it can never be implemented. The number of problems it would solve and money saved from wasting time on stupid disputes would be ridiculous.

Classifieds don't use the payment or feedback system. It's just like Craigslist.

Scam is not executed via: "i did not receive coins", it's executed via: "someone stole my card and i did not buy that stuff, pls refound me". And Paypal is well known as provider that is always on buyers side....talking from personal expirience.

No, it's same as anything else, but it takes 5$ or even more to set up single sell....so basicly, selling small ammounts of BTC is out of question that way.
EDIT: I just checked it. Insertation fee is 9.95$
So, basicly, only larger amounts, and with current scamming posibilities via Paypal (even once they accept blockchain as proof)....i dont know if i would do it.

I didn't have one successful auction on eBay because the highest bidders could not pass my very simple verification process. I was only selling $10 to $50 BTC worth at the time. I lost money from all the final value credit refund fees that never covered the auction cost.

If they execute this correctly, then this is fantastic news. This could be a very smart move on eBays behalf adopting/allowing crytopcurrencies (at a fee).
