One of Bitcoin's betting sites come to mind, albeit I'm not citing one of them thanks to last April's fiasco. The awards will air on February 30, 2014, (March 2, for those who don't observe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_History_Month). I first learnt about this flick via NPR late last year, and just now viewed the trailer. I truly believe this one will win Best Picture of the Year, considering... ~TMI BTCITW

2 questions...
-How is this movie? People loved Lincoln but I thought it was very boring and slow. -What are some legit bitcoin betting sites? I remember a site called intrade, which is illegal in the US now, I want some like that

Like, I don't want to start a race war or anything, but why is it that almost every year Hollywood chooses a movie about blacks bein' persecuted for an Oscar nod?
Am I the only one who thinks it's kind of racist to always highlight black culture and history as slavery and servitude?
Can't we give accolades to a black themed movie that's NOT about slavery or the "civil rights era"?

I think that the momentum is a lot more on American Hustle's side than 12 Years a Slave.
The latter is definitely a good film, but I guess we'll see!

Well it's like getting people to shut up about World War 2 or getting me to shut up about the shitty schooling I had, it's not going to happen

Actually, I haven't even seen the trailer but I reckon it'll probably win .

Best picture nominations in recent years: 2012 - Django Unchained (slavery) 2011 - The Help (servitude) 2009 - The Blind Side (blacks need the help of whites to succeed), Precious (blacks living in poverty and broken homes) Seriously, what the hell?

None of those won... Hence why I said, "an Oscar nod". Doesn't matter if they won or not, the fact that these are the only films representing the black experience in the US that are being selected for accolades by the Hollywood elite exposes their racist way of thinking. Which is the ultimately irony, given that they see themselves as progressive types, or "good white people".

sorry if movies about the history of this country offends you I'm not offended at all. But I would be if I were black, because these films represent nothing but black shortcomings throughout American history. It's a very clear picture. Blacks are either an underclass of slaves for white people, or they are servants for white people, or they need the help of whites to get a proper education because they're abandoned by their own mothers and fathers. If you were black, is this how you would like your race to be represented by Hollywood? Does anyone have any pride anymore?

Actually, the last Oscar *winning* film that I loathed which dealt with racism was Crash.
The main lesson in that one was that racism is bad, mmmkay? Zero subtlety.
The Academy seems to eat that shit up, though.

I think this is guaranteed it win. I bet the Globes and won!
I've seen all of the movies and think this has the best chance to win. The plot is so heavy, and the acting is way too good to pass up over American hustle, which might be the only movie that could beat out 12 years a slave.
I think it was a shame that Chiwetel was not giving the award but Matthew did play a good role and did work hard to look the way he did.
I'm betting money on the Oscars and betting on 12 years a slave again!

no it wouldn't because i went to a pretty good private school the best my parents could afford ... when it came time to talk about the history of this countries enslavement murder rape and torture of black people Must have been one hell of a school. sorry they cant cater movies to your delicate sensibilities I have "delicate sensibilities" because I'd like to see the Academy Awards select some films featuring black themes that aren't about them being victims or dimwits that need the help of charitable white people to succeed? I'm glad you can enjoy all these movies, but I don't think that Hollywood promoting the idea that blacks are second class citizens is healthy for anyone. You know, slavery sucks and it's still even practiced in parts of Africa to this day (not by white people, incredibly enough!) but nobody I know has owned slaves, nor have their parents, or grandparents, great grandparents, or great great grandparents. If we all want to live in an egalitarian society, we need to stop focusing on racial strife and promote films that aren't about fucking slavery, black people being whipped, and fucking butlers and mammies!
