I'm not at all responsible or assocaited with this software, but wanted to provide a link ...

http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmining/comments/1va8g2/ann_sgminer_400_release/

... and then ask ...

Has anyone used this software?

I've been trying to get cgminer to work on Linux with my two R9 290s, without perfect success, so was wonder whether a switch to sgminer might be worthwhile?

I know the developer from litecointalk... he's a great guy inside the community.
I don't think he'll do anything wrong.

Check the litecoin thread also:

Nice! Gained 20 khash/s...  Plus you can set the intensity as high as 42 and use commas to assign threads to multiple cards.  Thanks for the heads up.

wait.. so this works with scrypt? i thought it didn't.. also is this clean? (putting my tin-foiled hat on) does this give any small payment to the creator?

it's created by a well known senior member on litecointalk website, it's totally trustworthy but he didn'T compile the windows wallet, that one could be a risk, I'm testing it now in a VM

This works ONLY with scrypt. The creator veox forked cgminer and modded from it.
From what I know the payouts are ok.

Right, this picks up after cgminer 3.7.2 when they stop scrypt and gpu support... now it's scrypt only

yeah just copy your usual .bat file, rename it whatever.  replace cgminer.exe with sgminer.exe and remove the --scrypt parameter.  you'll be good to go

Personally it showed no improvement on my HD7850 card. Probably needs a lot of tweaking to find the better "Sweet spot" above 414 hash. But I like keeping current on my software. Thank you very much for providing it.

So I had some problems with cgminer and my two R9 290 cards in my first every mining rig. I've got the same problems with sgminer, but at least I can let the developer know and maybe help him find a fix. I'm not worried about performance improvements over the cgminer code base as such - at least, not yet!

I am far from an expert in building linux software, but can you build cgminer? I was able to get that to build after some trial and error, but as I recall, sgminer didn't require anything additional.

Can someone sell me on this; cgminer already works great. Will I see a benefit by switching to sgminer? Does it do anything 'better'?

Thanks Smiley

cgminer does work well for a lot of people, but if you're mining scrypt coins on your GPU then you're stuck with the 3.7.2 version (or earlier).

For me, I've had some issues with running both my R9 290's effectively under linux. So I'm hoping that sgminer may prove to be the way foward.

Since I originally started this topic thread, I've been looking at the source code in order to try and help resolve my problems. I currently believe that it's down to an AMD driver issue - but we'll have to see. Anyway, this has given me the opportunity to make my very own contributions to the project - so I'm hoping that they see the light of day in the near future!

Hi. Just wanted to ask if you would care to share your exact settings and card model for the 7850 card that you claim do 414 khash. I just have two 7850, but they are the cheap xfx ones with 1gb memory and only one fan, and with high overclocks I reach about 385 khash. The temperature of my cards is then between 74-80C so I do not believe I can clock them any higher. But please share your settings if you like, cause I plan to pick up more cheap 7850 cards and sell off my 5-series cards while they still are alive and worth something.
