DPS-1200FB power supply eating 10w without any load, normal?

Hey folks, got a question about the HP DPS-1200FB power supply, it eats 10w when at rest without any load, is that normal?

And when I put on a load of 180w (value given by Nvidia 1080 driver software), I read 220w on the kill-o-watter meter. A 40w difference... That doesn't seem worthy of a 80 Plus Platinum rating does it? I got it on AliExpress for 55 USD refurbished... Or could the breakout board be the cause?

and how much is hooked up.

i.e. 2 cables to the 1080 and one cable to the riser.

btw the fans are the on the psu and on the gpu.

so they do not show on the 180 you read.

Yes you are right, the DPS-1200FB fan would explain for the 10w draw on rest. But that leaves 30w to be accounted for? My 1080 is water cooled, so no fans there. The raiser must eat a little, but a whole 30w?

Well 180 at .93 eff is really 7% higher that is about 13 watts

And maybe you have a gold not a platinum

It is easy to tell the power cord socket blue in color is platinum

The power cord socket black in color is gold


Gold is 88%. So 12% of 180 is 21.6 watts

I also don’t know what the nvidia software counts when it reads 180 watts.

But if I use smos to run a pc and set a card to 180 watts a two card rig is 400 not 360.

In your case you would be 440 that does seem a bit high.

Power cord socket is indeed black, so I have gold. Now things make a little more sense, thanks for the info, I'll keep you posted after I add other cards to the rig, hopefully that should clarify things more.

Did you forget about the CPU, CPU Fan and SATA for the hard drive?
