DogeCoin Wallet sync

I installed my DogeCoin wallet today but it takes ages to sync, I think I have been waiting for more than 5 hours now and it did not finish. Is it because of my computer? I was thinking about trying to mine with it, just to see how it works, but if just syncing the wallet takes ages do I have any chance to mine anything with it?

The blockchain will take hours to download. They do with any popular currency.
